Re: 2023-24 team
Regarding Perrys defense. We held ISU to 58 pts. Only Houston held then to less. 57.
We do not do that if Perry and the rest of the team are not playing good defense. I thought ISU struggled to get good looks today.

Several times during the game someone from the Cats drove to the basket and then passed to a cutter for an easy shot at the basket. Is this a new wrinkle? It was effective.

I have been raking my brain why this team's performance against Iowa State was so pleasant.
Dur.... they played like a team for once. An example was a guy driving to the basket pulling up and passing to a cutter for an easy shot.

well, there's always great anticipation and hope as the tournament approaches. the never ending optimism of fanatics who trust everything has suddenly changed. the team will make a deep run. i mean coach tang talks about peaking in march, right?
we'll know tomorrow evening if this outfit has turned the corner. iowa state was a pleasant experience. the cats were not a well-oil machine, mind you, but good enough to almost dominate the (faux) 6th ranked twisters.
but texas brings a different steer to kc's ring. we saw that with the women yesterday. deeper, skilled, athletic as hell. state will need to mess with their heads. bump, push, shove. make it a late game grinder. do that and they may have a chance at messing with iowa state once more.

I would love to see this team win 2 games or more in the Big 12 tournament.
I would love to see a 20 win season.
No matter if these happen I am very pleased with being in a position to have dreams to shoot for and give me a fan something to hope for.
The Cats could have rolled over and died against Iowa State. They gave a crap about that game. So as a spoiled fan the Cats deserve reciprocation from fans and realize the good job Tang, his staff, and players have done given the travails that has besieged this program.

What are the things from this year that bode promise for next year.
I like how Ames has turned the corner.
RJ seems to be getting comfortable.
I think Colbert has gotten better. They say bigs usually blossom and mature with age.
Finister had flashes.
I am somewhat pessimistic about Kaluma, N'Guessan and Manning returning. Kaluma tries the NBA. DNG a pro career in Europe. Manning because he is peaved - a star at UMKC?
It would.be great if Kaluma and N'Guessan return.
I also see an associate coach getting a head coach gig. Likely Malig,i and OSU would be a good fit.

K-State committed 491 turnovers this season -- which comes out to nearly 15 per game, ranking dead last among Power-Six teams.
If they end up missing the NCAA Tournament, the turnover problems throughout the year that were never rectified are perhaps the No. 1 thing to blame.

I'm pretty sure Tang knows this already, meaning that if anyone followed along with Cats games, it was obvious. I'd bet it was on his pregame board every game. The talking heads can keep bringing it up, but they do it for their own benefit. Just thinking of the last two head men's basketball coaches, I cannot figure out why anyone is complaining about Tang's Cats.tmcats wrote: ↑March 15th, 2024, 5:22 pmRyan Gilbert

One of the reasons why the Big12 is so good is because of the defense. Good defense creates turn overs. I'd rather see the stat on unforced turn overs. That is the more telling stat. I like Cam Carter, but when he has to be the 2 guard, not his natural position, he has to handle the ball more and it didn't work out well. He's a short 3 guard. Tomlin would have helped Cam more than anything. It would have freed him up to spot up and shoot and slash to the bucket. Kaluma is good, but he wasn't Tomlin. So KState had to adapt and make due.
