I've never been much of a country music fan (new or old). My dad likes the old country singers like Eddy Arnold, Jim Reeves, and Hank Williams Sr.
If I was forced to choose, it would be old country for me, too. Of course, my preference is classic rock from the 70s and 80s.

My God, Cooter. You and I groove together musically. Too bad we can't politically. Mighty Merle,, The Possum, Gene Watson, John Anderson, old Hank, young Hank, the Man in Black, Waylon, and the all-mighty Red Headed Stranger.
Now, Jamie Johnson is a relatively new guy whose lyrics I love. Who could not like "It may be lonely at the top, but it's a bitch at the bottom," or "Burning down the Roses?"
Now for putting me to sleep for a good afternoon nap, ain't nuthin' better than some good ol' AA blues wailing through my ear-buds.
Old-time Rock & Roll and some Bluegrass for the occasional change of pace.

Thank God for Sirius/XM radio. They provide a lot of old country music. The 'new' country is jus plain annoying. About as 'new' as I get is Toby Keith, Dixie Chicks and the Jane Dear Girls.
Doo Wop is my first choice, but I seem to be on Willie's Roadhouse a lot.

Chris Stapleton is fine, but Sturgill Simpson is an unknown to me.
RZ, Toby Keith is great. Dropped the Dixie Chicks years ago for their politics, and the Jane Dear Girls are a new name to me.
It don't take much to get me out of touch these days. :0

The Dixie Chicks were flying high until Natalie Maines shot off her mouth bashing the USA over in England. They may as well have jumped off a cliff, it pretty much destroyed their careers. I'll never understand why co called celebrities think their political views will influence people to change their own opinions.ToledoCat#2 wrote: ↑July 15th, 2019, 8:53 amChris Stapleton is fine, but Sturgill Simpson is an unknown to me.

I grew up listening to the Grand Ole Opry and the Louisiana Hayride. If we were putting together a list of "classic" country I would have to suggest Johnny Horton. My favorite song of his was Honkey Tonk Man … I love the song and the guitar riff. He lived down the street from us on River Road in Shreveport, Louisiana. I remember the day he died a terrible loss.
