The State of Kansas State sports, getting better

Right now....
Underwhelming, disappointing, disheartening are words that come to mind.
We were spoiled by last year's success and expecting a repeat.
Avery and the women's basketball team are bright spots in a turbulent period.
Football players leaving like rats from a sinking ship.
A volatile basketball team that seems rudderless and has to do without a talented big man.
Typical K State Sports. Decent, fun to watch, but great eludes the Wildcats in sports.
Go soils judging team.

It's easy to get down, but if we had played better in the second half against NU and won, we would be thrilled at the progress of the men's basketball team. They went through down times last season, too. And yes, the ladies are having a good season.

Regarding the football team, I think most of us were hoping for a better outcome. I was guessing around 8-4 or 9-3 (with an outside shot at ten-wins) at the beginning of the season, but every loss was by single digits. I'm interested to see how Avery and the new players do next season. It's good that our programs are competitive on the big stage. We also have great coaches to keep us moving forward.

The sun will come up and shine. I want to K State in the 70s and never saw us win a football game. Then our basketball program went to hell. So I have some psychological protective instinct embedded on my Wildcats gene pool that kicks in to keep me from being to down as a fan. I suppose it is kicking in. Last year's success was exhilarating and addictive. I like the Cat high.

Women BB look like they may make Tournament if they stay healthy.
Men's BB haa a new ingredient that adds to the optimism bucket.
New indoor track and field facility.
Avery may put on a show behind an intact oline. Giddens may go on a ramage also.
So no national championships likely, but competitive teams that are no slouches.

I'm willing to accept Wildcat athletic teams not being superlative or perfect ... and just usually being highly competitive.
