Name of old banned national drinking fraternity

A bunch of us old KSU geezer guys were discussing all things KSU at coffee this morn and the subject arose of the National Drinking Fraternity that former Dean of Students Chester Peter did war with on campus in the 1960s. No one could remember the banned-frat's name. I do remember that a couple of KSU football players were expelled from KSU because of their membership. As this old mind recalls, one was Jack Marceline and the other was Sonny Calta.

Any better old memory know what the name of the drinking frat was?

Now that my curiosity is aroused, I may have to dig out a Royal Purple from the early 60s to find out the name of this banned drinking fraternity.

In the mid 70s there was an underground fraternity called TNE. I don’t know what that stood for. They were banned on most if not all campuses across the US. Although they were supposed to be underground on most campuses. I believe their members were also members of actual fraternities. Most fraternities would kick out any member who was found to be a TNE. The TNEs were a secret fraternity and did not meet in public places. And yes they drank heavily. Way beyond even frat parties drinking.
I had a friend at KU who was a TNE. I never got much out of him other than they drank a bunch. And he could drink more than anyone I ever knew.
I liked to drink and party as much as the next guy but I avoided anyone who and any association with the TNEs.

THANK YOU, NatCat2, for your info. It was indeed Tau Nu Epsilon that was the banned national drinking fraternity. In its war with Dean of Students Chester Peters, TNE would unroll banners from the catwalk in Ahearn in basketball and off the south outside wall of Ahearn during a football game.

I know a couple of football players got kicked off the team and I think out of school for TNE membership.

In the 70s, we use to put a bottle in our boots to pour into the water jugs of pop we took to game. Sit in the east bleachers and get snockered as we lost. I really don't remember walking back to Haymaker. Good thing I was not in a fraternity that drank.

I can't shame you, SCSK. I was still 17 when I started at KSU and the legal drinking age was 18. I had very few Sunday mornings without a hangover. Fond memories of all the keggers at the Tuttle Puddle.
