Re: Recruiting Thread
I still can't believe the upgrade in recruiting woth Coach Tang. K-State's being mentioned by several top 25 Dudes in the 2025 class. We may not land them all, but if we can get one or two that'll be a heck of a class. Back in the day, if we were on guys in the top 150 we were doing well. My, my, my... times have changed.

At some point just fishing isn't going to cut it. Catching is needed.
Weber was prolific at fishing. He had fishing pole, bank lines, and trot lines set up all over the place trying to snag a player. Seemed like a few nibble on the bait.
With Tang we seem to be getting hard strikes, and even setting a few hooks. Hopefully, the spring signing period will result in catching a few 2024 recruits to blend with portal dudes.

Coach Tang and staff are recruiting some very talented players for the 2025 class.

Weber was a tireless worker and that included recruiting. But he never really cared to fish in the big lakes that Tang and staff have been fishing in. He took to the smaller ponds, steams, rivers and hoped one might slip through.SCKSCat wrote: ↑December 12th, 2023, 11:05 pmAt some point just fishing isn't going to cut it. Catching is needed.

But as far as the Tang staff, to this point it doesn’t appear the hiring of Rodney Perry has netted them any big recruits he might have been associated with, especially at Link. I think they’ve gone after 3 and all have chosen to go elsewhere. But I’m sure he was hired for much more than just his connections at Link.

In the first 2 recruiting classes we have commitments from quality guards.
I am concerned about not landing any quality big men. Why do big quality players shun K State.
It seems like Wade was the last big recruited that was worth a turd.
Using the Portal to get power forwards and centers is so/so for us. We got one in Tomlin, but.....

At some point? Like he did with Keyontae or Kaluma or Dai Dai etc etc?SCKSCat wrote: ↑December 12th, 2023, 11:05 pmAt some point just fishing isn't going to cut it. Catching is needed.

One. Lots of 2024 players said K State were on their final lists.
Being on a list is not a commitment.
Losing out on Ngongba hurt. Losing out on Derrion Reid hurt.

Recruiting is such a revolving door that signing a player does not mean what it used to. Now it is a continual process. Guys who were interested but signed elsewhere may be here in time. Given the current trend, the 4 year player may be more the exception then the rule. Transfers, portal, leaving early, NIL and Grad transfers/5th year players make moving on increasingly likely. Some leave for the money, others leave for more playing time. The primary movers used to be grades and personal issues. Now we likely won't even know if those are the reasons.

Spot on! When was the last time anyone's even hinted at grades being a problem? Imo, the "student" in student-athlete has left the barn.katlander wrote: ↑December 24th, 2023, 11:16 amRecruiting is such a revolving door that signing a player does not mean what it used to. NCAA is proposing tougher academic standards that a transfer has to meet in order to transfer to new school. This is in the proposed stage. I assume if you have used 2 years of eligibility, you will have to have the amount of credit hours that a sophomore would be expected to transfer. The goal is to maintain the facade of student athletes at least for the NIL johns who are chasing the money whores.
