Kansas State guard Dai Dai Ames to enter transfer portal

I'm a little surprised and bummed about this one.
If we sign another big man, will Rich and Manning also hit the portal? Ugh.

I guess the potential bright side is that Khalif Battle may be signing. Who knows?purpledolphincat wrote: ↑April 28th, 2024, 4:21 pmGood grief.....just keeps goingstlcatfan wrote: ↑April 28th, 2024, 4:20 pmKansas State guard Dai Dai Ames to enter transfer portal

At this point, if I were a coach I'd just stop recruiting HS kids as the probability of transferring goes up significantly with the longer the eligibility. Losing Dai Dai frustrates me along with Jones is such a bummer. People need to realize that both these kids were in our top 5 all time recruits for KSU. That's how good these guys are going to be, but now we won't get to see it happen.
Again, everybody wants the NIL. To get the NIL, a guy has to boost his stats. Can't get the stats without the PT. None of this is promoting staying in school, getting a degree while being a student athlete. Its the worst system that could have ever been created. I put this in another thread, but its like AAU basketball + NBA free agency with no cap on $$. Coaches are trying to pursue players by "handlers" getting them interested with NIL $$.

Well, it makes sense now why we have been recruiting so many guards this off-season.

I'm not sure who drew first blood on these relationships. Did these guys decide to leave after we recruited a bunch of other guards or did we know they were going to leave thus why we recruited so many guards? Seems like the former in my eyes. Again, I'd just wholesale stop recruiting HS athletes at this point. Live and die by the portal and NIL. What's the over under on Castillo finishing his career at KSU? 1.5 years seems about right.
This PT/NIL freight train is 100% off the tracks and going 1000 MPH.

Who is next?
I agree, why recruit high school players.

I wonder if the problem is the portal or how AAU and elite prep schools are polluting the mindset of these kids. I am of the opinion that agents who get a % of a NIL deal are getting into the heads of these young men. It will be interesting to see where Ames lands. It doesn't seem any of our players who have transferred are any better off
