The billboard says "Kansans", not "Kansas", which I think is a dig at KU being mostly out of staters.
I stand corrected. Stilll a play on the University Of Kansas and what will be perceived by all the squawk t-shirt fans as a classic little brother move. I am proud of my alma mater and its reputation stands on its own it doesnt need help from the flaw on the kaw or any play on that schools name
So what we are saying is that we do not want any out-of-state students and their out-of-state tuition money? If I am an out-of -state student with an interest in veterinary school, ag degree or our fantastic School of Engineering I guess I am going somewhere else where I am wanted.

alford has won everywhere he's coached. 683-357. rock solid. he would immediately fix oSu.
Yeah, but all of the extras that come with it is what I am referring to. He got into a little bit of trouble during his Iowa coaching days, shoplifting golf clubs. Then one of his players at a school raped someone--New Mexico, I think, and Alford adamantly defended the kid, who was later charged, and Alford admitting he didn't handle the whole situation well. He does recruit well, but he brings some baggage.

to me, oSu hiring steve alford would be akin to ou's hiring lonnie kruger.
Why is there something rather than nothing?

I don't get here often post-Weber, but I can't for the life of me imagine why anybody's complaining about Tang. I'm not a big fan of the religion on
the sleeve issue but, really, is that the best you got?
Since you asked, I’ll answer. No , it’s not. The problem happens when you take religion off your sleeve and try to sell it to the nation. You raised this issue.

“This is what happens when you put God first.”

This was uttered, on the court, by Tang, after defeating Michigan State. The danger?

Bill Self must be holy as it gets.
Coach K sits at the right hand
Bruce Pearl sits at his left.

The very notion is dangerous because charlatans use this to bilk the widow. Bruce Weber was crucified for saying his team won the play hard chart after a heartbreak loss against KU. 810 radio roasted him during the monologue. He was ridiculed here and that statement was used to mock him every time the Cats lost a hard fought loss. Can you imagine the outcry if Bruce had uttered that statement? The fans, this time, would have been justified.

Can you imagine the outcry for his removal if Bruce had addressed the crowd, after stepping off the tarmac, and promised a soon to be National Championship. There would have been an outcry for his removal. This statement has been quickly swept under the rug by the press, and fans, hoping no one will raise the issue after spending thousands of dollars on tickets to say nothing of the emotional investment thinking a championship is right around the corner. Far-fetched, but not out of the question. This is not the most dangerous element of these kinds of predictions. I’ve said enough

Ya Learnin, you've said enough. That's for sure. You have an obsession with Tang's faith. We get it. You always gave Weber a pass and defended him. You were always critical of Martin and his assistants. Now you're critical of Tang. We get it. When Weber won a B12 Title, you were all mouth about it. When he sucked in his last few years, you adamantly defended him. I don't like Weber, never did. I respected that he was a decent Xs and Os guy when he had the talent. I don't like him because one of my high school best friends (and lifelong friend) who I trust with my life was a 5A high school basketball coach in the St Louis area didn't like him. He knows most of the D1 coaches in the midwest (in addition to Coach K, Roy Williams, and a number of elite level college basketball coaches who would recruit his players), and he didn't like Weber for a number of reasons I won't get into. I trust his judgement. That should give an indication why Weber had a hard time recruiting at KSU - I suspect there were other high school coaches that felt similar to my good friend. We get that you have an issue with Tang and his faith, and people of faith in general.

And if Tang was as big a charlatan as he is being made out to be, learnin, his blatant display of behavior that would be deemed un-Christian-like would be all over the news, don't you think? So far, that has not happened. There are so many things in this world that are so much more offensive, I struggle to understand your hatred for the man who has done nothing to you. There's gotta be something else. Tell us what it is.

https://relevantradio.com/2023/03/coach ... ops-faith/

My take. Men of faith can be true to that faith, openly live their faith for others to see, and be successful. Tang is not some two faced ideologue that is all talk and not a doer of his faith, a fully sanctified and Spirit led Christian. Coach K is a very spiritual man and Christian and was not ashamed of it.

Coach K, who retired after the 2022 season, said he doesn’t miss the process of preparing for and coaching a game. He did it for so long, feels like he gave it all he could, and is now enjoying the retired life. However, what he does miss are the relationships. After such a long and illustrious career as one of the best coaches in college basketball, Coach K saw the careers of many young men flourish, both as players and coaching staff.

But besides preparing his players for the next level of play in the NBA, Coach was equally interested in turning these boys into men by creating a culture that rewarded good character, good sportsmanship, and playing sacrificially.

His parents saw the value in a strong foundation in the Catholic Faith. And so did a young Mike Krzyzewski. He thanks his parents for sending him to St. Helen and Weber because it awoke in him the drive for self-discipline and also an attachment to his faith.

But in the good times, and even in the bad, his foundation remained in his Catholic faith. It gave him the humility to be grateful for the successes and accomplishments that he achieved, and it gave him the strength to push through the heart-breaking defeats and losses that also visited his career.

“Any success that I’ve had has been a shared success. It’s not been an individual success. For me, I’m realistic: We won all those championships and Olympic Gold Medals because we were able to get a group of very talented individuals to play as one. And when we accomplished the goal of winning the championship, that was a shared celebration, and those are the best. Those are the very best.”

Along with the talented athletes, brilliant coaching staff, and the support of his family that surrounded him, there was no greater catalyst to his success than the power of God. Coach K, who referenced his habit of attending 7:45 am Mass at Immaculate Conception, said he prayed the Holy Rosary before every game and offered it for some intention and for the glory of God.

“I glorified you on earth by accomplishing the work that you gave me to do. Now glorify me, Father, with you, with the glory that I had with you before the world began.” (John 17:4-5)

Lets see. We were 3 points away from making it to the Final Four. Keyontae played 18 minutes in that game before fouling out.

That is not winning the National Championship but seems like you could say it was competing for the National Championship.

REGARDING RELIGION.

Both Massoud and Iyiola are members of the Muslim community and are observing Ramadan as their team continues their prance through March Madness after beating Michigan State 98-93 in a thrilling overtime game Thursday night.

K-State organized a plan for Massoud and Iyiola to begin celebrating Ramadan on Thursday night, and the two began prayer together at a Mosque in New York, Massoud's hometown. Iyoila is participating in the month's long fast, which permits Muslims to only eat and drink when the sun is not up. Massoud is "hoping" to make his days up later in the year, when the season is over. But he's still participating in other rituals the holiday brings for Muslims.

First-year K-State head coach Jerome Tang is a strong Baptist believer, and despite no longer working at Baylor -- a Baptist college -- Tang encourages his players to have religious values, and though Massoud and Iyiola are unique in their beliefs, Tang welcomes diversity.

"I’m about guys embracing their faith, growing," he says, "My faith teaches me that people will know that I truly believe what I believe if I love everybody. And I love Ish and I love Bebe. And I want them to pursue their faith with fervor. Just run after it. I’m thankful that they believe like that."

Yeah, if Keyontae had played the full game, most likely we would have gone to the Final Four. I think we could have beaten San Diego State and played UConn for the National Championship. We've just been snake bit, it seems, in our last four Elite Eights. Having Dean available in our previous Elite Eight likely would have gotten us into the Final Four. And the two prior to those we were coming off of hard fought Sweet 16 games against Xavier and Purdue and we didn't have our legs for those games against Butler and KU (who we already had beaten twice that season).

You don’t like Weber. No big deal. I have no problem with any fan not liking him. I’m not bringing Weber up in order to convince you, or anyone for that matter, that Weber was a great guy and coach. It should be obvious that I bring him up to point out the hypocrisy and double standard. Because fans thought the very popular Frank Martin was forced out by Currie, Weber became the enemy, Curries choice.
Tang follows up a very disliked coach and a failed season is not met with the same criticism that Weber received even though Weber made the tournament in both of his first two years.

Frank Martin? Season-ticket holder and Ahearn fund contributor all through the Martin years. Avid supporter, but I would not look the other way when he abused his players.

Faith? I do not have an issue with people of faith. I have an issue with crazy faith or what I call 700 club faith where God speaks directly to you, gives you money and trophies when you praise him, and hands out miracles like candy. I have an issue with hypocrisy. I see danger, just like I saw danger with Frank’s abusive style. I’m not going to give Tang a pass simply because he followed up an unpopular coach.
