Bill Self is a cryin' elitist just like Rodney Terry whining about the "horns-down" sign. Self just wants all to bow down to him.....what a bunch of b.s. Tang's handshake was no different than what Self did in MHK earlier this season.
I am not bashing Tang at all. The thing at ISU puzzled me. I'd like to know what went down really. Me personally I think it got blown out of proportion by Kellis and others. And went from there. Whatever I guess maybe we'll see how that goes over tomorrow. I'll be curious how the coaches respond to one another. Hopefully the Cats don't get swept in about everything this year against the Clones. I work with many Cyclones fans and have friendly ribbing with them. It's been a rough go this year.

The blow by handshakes I don't care for is all I'm saying. I didn't like it when Weber did it. I don't care for it now. That seems pouty to me. Maybe this is just the way it is now. Maybe there is something between those 2. Yes I know Self plays the media. He's a sneaky *uck. Not saying you have to hug it out, give a smooch on the cheek or a little pat on the ass. Just a handshake and good game or more if you like that coach. I guess I'm just an old fart and like to be respectful, if I can.
It is fine to not like the blow by hand shake. I find it fine and found webers blow bys were fine and Snyders handshakes with opposing coaches condescending. But how a coach shakes hands after a loss does not amount to a hill of beans.

But Self's BS about the hand shake was wrong and he should be called out big time for it.
Self called Tang out for the exact hand shake he gave in Manhattan. His comments made it appear Tang was a sore loser and had exhibited a lower level of sportsmanship than Self did in Manhattan. Even got some posters on this forum to buy into it.

What Self did was wrong on every level.

Well the person who should be the most disappointed about this year
Tylor Perry said
“Just being able to play under Coach Tang, I think he changed my life forever,” Perry said. “There are so many things I’ve learned in this short time here. I’m definitely glad that I signed on that dotted line to come play for him. There is nothing I would change about it.

“I hate that I have only been here one year,” Perry said. “I hate that I only got to spend one year under Coach Tang. I wish I had more years to play with them, play with these guys. I wish I had more time to embrace the community and embrace the fans the same way I did at UNT. “That is one thing that (stinks) about this transfer portal and only getting to spend on year here. Because when you really care about things outside of basketball it’s not the same. You really want to enjoy the community and enjoy the fans. I didn’t feel like I got to do that as much as I wanted to.”

I am going to shut my whiny yap after reading this.

Gorhoops, you are to be commended for a very brave and important post. This needed to be said for the benefit of fans, the program and Coach himself.
I’ve written a post on this very subject matter, but have been sitting on it because, if the team made the tournament, many would see it as trolling and few would accept what outsiders easily see.

I believe most of us can change when our ideologies, schemes and, yes, phoniness fails us . I experienced a life changing event some 23 years ago and it was the most important lesson I’ve learned. You correctly wrote that you can see why rival teams perceive phoniness and hot air. Pdave detected this very early and I gradually came to the realization refused as last season progressed. The final straw for me is when he promised a soon to be national championship after arriving in Manhattan following the elite 8. He, also, told Perry that we’re going to the final four with or without you. Not a good thing to be saying to recruits. Marquis took this crazy faith to heart and proclaimed :

“I will make history as the best Raptor to ever put on a uniform"

We know how that turned out.
Gor, you are a very good and respected poster. However, on the blow by hand shake, Self snookered you.
The handshakes in Ahearn and Allen were identical. Self really needs to be called out for either a poor memory or for being disingenuous.

Hey xtra, I have been sick the last few days so haven't been on much. I posted about the blow by handshake before I got the full story/video and after seeing it I realized what I posted was incomplete. Coach Tang did nothing wrong in that deal.

I met Bill Self at a basketball camp in Alva, Oklahoma after he graduated high school. He was Mr. Basketball in Oklahoma at the time I think. My brother and I were walking to the cafeteria with him one day during that week just shooting the bull. I thought he was a great guy and have followed his coaching career. My brother ran into him at a coaches clinic somewhere and had another conversation with him, and after that when he'd see my brother, he'd refer to my brother by his first name. For as many people as a guy in his position meets at events like that, I thought that was pretty cool.

I think Self has been changed by the game, somewhat. I don't like KU. I never have. My dad loathed Ted Owens, so like most kids, I hated what my dad hated, especially the Donkos and the Raiders. Anyway, I was happy for Self when he got the job, but his image has been tainted by all the recruiting stuff and little things like this. Both he and Tang should relish an actual rivalry because it makes both programs stronger. At the end of the day, I hope they at the very least respect each other. One of these days, Tang is going to double him up in a season, and that will be an awesome day. Even it if happens in the Big12 tournament.

I knew you did not have the details and unfortunately not all Kstate fans got the full story and hardly any fans or neutral observers got the story. Self should issue a public apology.

Just further shows what an egotistic cheating bunghole Self is. Big Baby. Can give it but can't take it. Thinks it is okay if he cheats to the point where the other teams don't have a chance.

Is the Jankovich playing at KU related to the Tim Jankovich that played at KSTate?

I looked it up. He is.

So do opposing coaches habor ill will towards Tang for doing so well last year and are trying to put hom in his place. I imagine that opposing programs see Kansas State basketball as a legitimate competitor for talent and anything that they can do to tear down Tang and his staff. So maybe this crap from opposing coaches has an underlying reason. Weber didn't concern anyone.

Tim was a Manhattan boy who played for Jack Hartman and later coached at KU under Larry Brown.
