non-k-state games ...
i watched (3-9) chicago state take down (7-1) northwestern last night 75-73 in a heck of a game before a throng of hundreds at the wildcats gym. i keep track of northwestern some since chris lowery went there teaching them how to play defense. they have been pretty salty but laid an egg last night.
also, lonnie's son got perhaps his biggest unlv (4-4) victory taking down #8 creighton 79-64. the rebs are led by the former oSu's kaleb boone and his twin brother. lonnie was in the stands smiling. the jays were 14-point favorites.

Well this shows 2 things to me. One, there are no games that anybody should take for granted. A hot team hitting 3s can beat a better team that is shooting poorly. We have about lost twice to teams who supposedly less talented. Secondly there seems to be more teams that have more older and talented players on them, and this makes them stronger as a team. I suspect NIL has been part of the change. The Creighton loss surprises me. We should win, on paper, all of the remaining non com games. But we play games on wood.

thursday night #7 marquette was taken to the wire at home by the (6-5) division 3 university of st. thomas, 84-79. the tommies of st. paul, minnesota had earlier lost to fordam, chicago state, seattle and others but took the warriors to task losing down the stretch in a fun game for this casual fan.

absolutely. it only takes five to play hoops versus football's twenty two plus special teams. 72 less scholarships. facilities are cheaper. the staff is less than half. yep, basketball has less variables at play, is easier to manage, and thus more competitive.PurpleOnWhite wrote: ↑December 15th, 2023, 11:46 amThere is a much better opportunity for parity in basketball.

There are a lot of good players out and more good coaches all the time. Those guys from ORU and Northern Alabama were good players and well coached.

This is exactly why you better guard and rebound consistently, because you can survive off shooting nights of you are stingy in those 2 areas. If you're average in those 2 areas and have an off night shooting, you're losing to most teams.SCKSCat wrote: ↑December 15th, 2023, 9:46 amWell this shows 2 things to me. We are improving in these two areas, thankfully. Right now, I see us being an 8-10 conference team on the bubble. If we keep improving, I could see 10-8 and a 5 seed type team.

houston struggled to aTm but their overall depth finally won out 70-66; houston is going to get a few losses in the b12.
creighton beat bama in omaha by three; the jays play a nice, flowing, fun offensive game; mcdermott has done well there after his ames fail;
ou wins by almost 40 over green bay, maybe the porter has found his baggage in norman;
mem wins by two over #13 clemson; will be fun to follow tomlin down there;
texas beat lsu by 11; compare that to the cats 15-point win in baton rouge if you choose.
