https://burnerball.com/march-coaching-c ... breakdown/

At the beginning of every month, we’ll give you the most comprehensive coaching carousel coverage in college basketball. Here’s where everything stands on March 1 – the final edition of the coaching carousel breakdown.

Jobs marked with *** are already open.

High-Major Hot Seat
Tony Stubblefield (DePaul)***
DePaul is open. As of writing I would still consider Bobby Hurley one of the top candidates there. Porter Moser and Darian DeVries are other names briefly linked.

Mike Woodson (Indiana)
A late addition to this list – after being safe for most of the year the heat is on in Bloomington. Woodson has made the tournament the last two seasons, but finds himself in real jeopardy of not getting a fourth year at IU.

Kenny Payne (Louisville)
The biggest job of the cycle this spring. Whoever gets this job will likely impact how the rest of the carousel turns.

Juwan Howard (Michigan)
Michigan is having one of the worst seasons the program has seen in decades. Warde Manuel is reportedly very reluctant to get rid of Howard, but he might not be the one to make that decision.

Kevin Keatts (NC State)
Keatts likely earned some grace after last season’s performance, but the rumblings are back after a down year. It feels a year early in Raleigh.

Chris Holtmann (Ohio State)***
Holtmann is out and Jake Diebler is killing it so far. Will Ohio State get Rodney Terry’d?

Mike Boynton (Oklahoma State)
Oklahoma State has the lowest NIL budget in the conference and multiple sources believe that’s their focus for next year instead of paying Boynton’s buyout. This one could go either way at this point.

Wayne Tinkle (Oregon State)
Tinkle’s buyout saved him last year and this time around the school’s conference instability might give him one more chance. Another one that could go either way.

Jerod Haase (Stanford)
Stanford is no where near the tournament bubble after having high expectations at the beginning of the year.

Johnny Dawkins (UCF)
Tournament or bust for Dawkins.

Andy Enfield (USC)
This feels a year too early and it still does, but it’s a different era in college sports. We can’t rule out a change just yet.

Jerry Stackhouse (Vanderbilt)
Stackhouse reportedly signed an extension after last season and his buyout may be prohibitive. If Vandy is willing to put up the money, they’ll make a change.

Mike Hopkins (Washington)
The Hopkins era is likely coming to an end in Seattle.

Josh Eilert (West Virginia)***
The biggest what-if season in college basketball history, perhaps? The national search is ongoing.

This is an odd year for the Big 10 where the former heavy weights suck. I would suspect that Juwan Howard has already lost his job. He must have had a horrible string of recruiting failure.

I am surprised to see Dawkins of UCF on that list. They have been competitive in the Big12 when UCF has never really been a great basketball school.

I wonder if Gates at MO is safe.
MO has some big donors who seem impatient.
Maybe football is King now instead of basketball.
I miss the MO basketball rivalry. These games when on TV on Saturday live from Ahearn Fieldhouse were must see TV. Then we made the 'The Hole" and the rivalry was diminished.

I like Gates' bio and resume. In fairness, be brought some good players with him to MO such as Hodges. I think these players left. So he is starting his rebuild.
Ex NBA players don't seem to make good coaches. Howard has been hamstrung by Michigan's admissions policy.

What would have Maravich's total points been if there was a 3-point line in his time?

Pete Maravich Was Incredibly Making 13 Threes A Game Before The Three-Point Line Existed, He Would Have Averaged 57 Points Per Game In College If It Did (thirteen more than his actual 44 per game.)

lsu former coach dale brown said it would have been 54 per game. he looked at game film to aggregate the number.

Former LSU coach Dale Brown noted that recordings of Maravich's games make clear he routinely shot from beyond 20 feet. He and retired Baton Rouge-area sports writer Sam King concluded that Maravich would have averaged about 54 points per game had a 3-point line — adopted by the NCAA in 1986. wdsu

interesting list of the all-time top 25 coaches. in my view, jay wright is way too low at #23. jim boeheim top ten over wright? please! huggins should not be on it at all. and where is mark few?

my top three would be different. knight doesn't get credit for doing it without cheating like the ucla dude did incessantly. my top three would be coach k, knight, and then wooden. i also suspect there's some recency bias in this list.
