following frank martin. he had a good turnaround year - now 17-19 in A10 play over his two year stay at umass. 323-227 (.587) career overall.

BROOKLYN, N.Y. - Massachusetts (20-11, 11-7 Atlantic 10) dropped a 73-59 decision to VCU (21-12, 11-7 A-10) at the Barclays Center on Thursday afternoon in the quarterfinals of the Atlantic 10 Tournament. The loss caps what otherwise was a season of tremendous growth for the program, as the Minutemen secured their first 20-win season since 2013-14 and first top-four seed in the Atlantic 10 Championship since 2007-08.

I don't think there is any legal reason that potential student athletes cannot sign a contract with a school containing the terms of what the parties agree to offer one another, and I see no reason that schools cannot sign a contract to join a group of institutions which agrees to follow standards of conduct they all agree to. This includes amateurism and any other standards of conduct that are not illegal.

I think court rulings have been taken out of context to promote what certain segments of college sports see as advantageous to themselves. Pretty sure there is a lot of misinformation and sleight-of-hand being used to get what they want.

What would happen to an incomg player that signs a LOI, but decommits, but the school does not release them from the LOI?

Good practical wisdom from Bill Self that we need to heed. And why your coach has to be aware of marketing and branding.

It’s going to be hard in the future, looking forward, to be able to have players that are in your programs three and four years,” Self said. “You guys (banquet goers) all understand why. Because you play at a place for a year and you do a decent job, somebody is going to pay you more money to come to their school.

“That’s the way it works in today’s world. NIL in theory is good. It’s also the way (of) the world that’s not so good too, just be very candid with you. If we want to play with the big boys, then we’ve got to play the game and we have to participate. We need your help to do so and it is appreciated. But that is a key component in our success moving forward.”
