my understanding is that native american scholarship is only for one year and doesn't cover much. i wish one of our media midgets would get to the bottom of it because his recruitment here is fascinating on so many levels.

Ya, most NFL scouts don't know their ass from a whole in the ground most of the time when it comes to NFL Olinemen. Frankly, its astounding how bad the NFL scouts are at evaluating guys for the NFL, very specifically OL. Sure, its easy to see athleticism at the skill positions, hell that's remedial. One doesn't have to be a longtime football coach or scout to see elite athleticism at WR or RB. Shoot, look at how bad the NFL is at evaluating QB success. They get that wrong +75% of the time. Every year it blows me away at how wrong these overpaid coaches and scouts are. I personally know several NFL position coaches, a few scouts, and one former GM. They're just regular guys like us that made contacts playing the game, and got in to coaching via the coaching-fraternity. I'm blown away by many of them when I talk to them. I think to myself "how in the world is this guy an NFL coach making tons of money coaching a kids game?".tmcats wrote: ↑March 1st, 2024, 11:27 ama former somebody said yesterday that selecting linemen who will succeed is a tough chore. talent is easy to see at the skill positions and on defense, but o'linemen are hard to differentiate - the winners from the mehs. thus, we get a 5* kansan sorta-fail-at-nebraska, turner corcoran, juxtaposed with 2/3* consensus all-american at k-state in cooper beebe, and then wonder how that happens?Tbonespop wrote: ↑February 29th, 2024, 11:47 pm
It doesn't matter what round he gets picked. The guy is going to make a pile of money playing in the NFL for a LONG time. He's going to be a steal wherever he goes. I'm always amazed at how much these scouts and coaches make, and they miss on so many players its laughable.
i'm going to track nebraska's 5* grant brix v. k-state's incomers, particularly 4* walk-on navarro schunke, who i find really fascinating. first off, someone with that name just has to be "a find." but how does a 4* dude with tons of offers decide to walk on here? does his 5x state championship wrestling pedigree transfer to college football? and will he develop into something special as has been the case for other wrestlers like will geary?

I always come back to the movie Money Ball with Brad Pitt telling the scouts "you don't know, you just don't know". Billy Beane, guy was an innovator for sure

does anyone here, tbonespop or other, know the full story behind navarro schunke? he just looks to be a "can't miss" to me.

After watching the combine I think Bebbe goes early to mid second round, Duke is going undrafted, UDFA. Sinnott mid to late second round. KT Leveston goes around the sixth round.

No clue on my end - I have not done any digging on it though. I agree he looks like a steal. I do think our staff is exceptional when it comes to finding gems like this - as good as Snyder 1.0 staff was.

Cooper Beebe reportedly has 31.5 inch arms. That is considered very short for an NFL tackle. Is this a load of bull? What is the big deal with arm length? I would think a lot of other factors are much more important. Foot speed, balance, IQ etc. I have to believe that Cooper could help several NFL teams at tackle, and very possibly left tackle.
