There are a lot of pre-portal offers. If he goes to aTm, how will that feel?

I'm not surprised since there were lots of rumors that he was going into the portal, but still, it is disappointing. He's not like most of the other portal enrollees who didn't play much and/or were being passed up on the depth chart so it makes me wonder if this is about NIL $$$. I will be interested to see how fast he gets snapped up and who he will be playing for next season.

IMHO, a few of our players are being poached.

What's his prospects in the pros once he leaves college. Would he likely be picked in the first few rounds or would he be a late round pick or an undrafted free agent? He would be going into his final year of college next year and I know many are seeking out a bit of a pay day before they are done with the college game (especially if they likely wouldn't have a bright future as a pro).

Yes, I believe this will become the norm. Capitalize on your skills to get paid now, in case you're borderline NFL prospect. Some of these NIL packages are bigger than NFL practice squad pay.Kstate00 wrote: ↑December 11th, 2023, 7:14 pmWhat's his prospects in the pros once he leaves college. I think he's a fringe UDFA prospect. He's not good enough in coverage to stick as a safety in the modern NFL.Kstate00 wrote: ↑December 11th, 2023, 7:14 pmWhat's his prospects in the pros once he leaves college. That is exactly what is happening. What we are witnessing is the change in the landscape of college football right before our eyes. And it is accelerating. Everyone wants to say this happens every year; we lose players to the portal and we pick up players and we come out ahead. I agree that is what has happened the last few years, but this is different. The transfer portal on its own wasn’t a problem, but combining it with the misuse of NIL$ is a game changer. We will always lose backups that will go elsewhere to get on the field, but I think we are going to start losing starters. We will develop diamonds in the rough and the SEC with teams like A&M that think everything is for sale will sweep in and take them.
The reason is simple. There are no longer any rules and/or there certainly isn’t anyone enforcing them or attempting to put new ones in place. You can now tamper/poach players, pay them whatever it takes out of collectives with virtually unlimited amounts of money pouring in like a super PAC. You can then call it NIL even though it isn’t and with the transfer portal, players can leave whenever they want with zero restrictions or regard to scholarship commitments schools have made to them. The large programs have figured out that no one is in charge and they are taking full advantage.
Will we get players? Yes, we will get kids that want to trade up from smaller programs who aren’t worrying about NIL$. But, I think we will lose more than we will get and the churn rate will get to the point that it will look like our basketball program where you have an entirely new roster every year.
And you can thank fux like Greg Sankey for creating this system. I hope I’m wrong, but it definitely looks like the sky is falling. This is where I tell myself “have faith.”

It is going to get worse before it gets better. I think the NCAA is watching and waiting to see it all become the chaos that was predicted. Then they'll swoop in and 'save the day'. of course as a governing body, they have failed miserably on many levels, and whatever they think they are doing, most likely won't work. So then the college game will be a shell of its former self.
The greed in college football will end college football. History will show that these five entities will be to blame: NCAA, SEC and Big10 and ESPN and Fox.

I thought in season poaching was illegal. If he winds up at TxA&M lz likely he was.
