I'm not the one making the decision. But, if I were, he wouldn't make the cut.

Could it be that the plan was to protect Avery and limit his designed runs? Granted I wasn’t impressed with the play calls but maybe Riley was told to limit Avery’s exposure.

That was my thought, too. Plus, Avery is still a true freshman. He doesn't have the experience that someone like Will Howard has. The play-calling could have been designed to be fairly vanilla, with a big dose of DJ Giddens.

So very glad we have a QB solidly in place for spring and next year.
Still the original Tulsacat. Just newer.

I don't doubt that is the case. But, even given those constraints, nothing impressed me with the play calling.

I think the play calling had a lot more to do with inexperience at multiple positions. Our Wide receivers were not in the correct place. Multiple times. I also think it was the smart move to limit potential injuries to Avery.

My main critic of the play calling was not calling pitch sweeps or at least try to get Giddens to the outside. They finally did it on the last drive and it was successful every time for a few (or chunk) of yardage.
I'd bet Klieman gave Riley instructions to keep it pretty simple, rely on the O-line, and protect AJ from injury. At least that's my guess. Certainly the play calling was anything but innovative. However, I am not concerned about the future. Coach K knows football and he knows his players.

I thought some misdirection would have been successful.
