tmcats: Yep, the team this year has several talented pitchers. Maybe even enough to get them to Omaha. Sssooo... even if you are not a die-hard bsb follower, this is the year to maybe watch K-State baseball. Playing Tennessee on Tuesday, Clemson on Wednesday, then 3 weekend conference games with Cinny we shall know how good these guys are!

Cats finish off the final game of the set 10-1 and get the sweep. For the weekend and the cats outscored UMass-Lowell 37-5. So that’s a step in the right direction. Both Ingram and Culpepper were really off today but others stepped up which is exactly what you need them to do. Started off slow and they didn’t score until the 5th, but finally broke through and only allowed the one.

Now it’s off to Tennessee on Tuesday and over to Clemson on Wednesday to see what they’re really made of. Really need at least one of the two to help the resume.
i don't follow baseball only but occasionally. it's so tedious. anyway, are we any good, bhoovy?
tm, yes we do have a pretty good team. How good will all depend on the pitching, as it usually does with baseball. Borema is our ace and he’s really good. Not an over powering pitcher, will top out in the lower 90’s, but he’s 6’5” 225, so he’s a workhorse. He has some issues last year no one was really aware of that has been corrected and they say should make him even better this year. The biggest thing being his release point which will have him almost a foot closer to the plate when the ball leaves his hand and so less reaction time for hitters. The rest the staff is more the question. Lots of pieces, but how well do they fit together. And our ace closer Neighbors has yet to show his form from last year.

Offensively and defensively we’re pretty solid. The top 4 in our lineup are as good as any in the conference. So again will depend how the others come along and there is lots of potential. We seem to be slow starters though for the most part.

Today will be the big test against Tennessee at their place, which has been a big home field advantage for them. It will test our ace, the top of our lineup against great pitching and how the rest the team can handle a big time environment.

This team certainly has the talent and ability to play in the post season tournament. Can they put it together is the question.

From what I have read, Neighbors is dealing with physical issues and is currently unavailable unless something has changed in the last week.

Thanks Alabama. I wondered why they didn’t give him an inning in the last two series. I didn’t get in on all the telecast for each game so may have missed the broadcast crew talking about him. Hopefully it’s not something major. He’s a big piece to the Cats success.

From another site, someone talked to a player and he will be out a month. They didn’t know if that was a month from when it happened or a month from now.

Cats with a really poor outing against Tennessee. They jumped out and scored 2 in the first inning and Borema only pitched to 4 batters allowing no runs. But that was the highlights. Borema fooled no one after that. Gave up 3 in the bottom of the second and a homer. Gave up 6 in the 3rd and 3 more homers, including a grand slam. He was done after that. Guyett came in and struggled with control giving up 4 more and a homer in the 4th. He did get out of the 5th without any runs, but again got crushed in the 6th giving up a homer and two more runs and he exited for Buss. He came in and got the last out leaving it 15-4. Caden Phillips came in the 8th and put one out of the park to give us at least one homer. Buss also went 3 up and down in the 8th. In the 9th the Cats got 2 on but couldn’t get them in and it ended 15-5.

Tennessee did not throw any weekend starters but used 4 bullpen arms. Pretty dreadful. One bright spot was Ingram as he was 2-3 driving to balls into the gaps.

Tennessee started the season playing 3 big12 teams at Globe Life field. They beat Tech 6-2, lost to OU 1-5 in 10 innings and beat Baylor 11-5. So we took the worst beating, although in Tennessee’s home field and home run launching park.

Hopefully the Cats come out with a better outing at Clemson tomorrow. Otherwise this improved schedule only proved to give up 4 losses, to include the Arizona St and Cal loss.

I didn’t get to see the game, just tne box score, but doesn’t appear there was much to see as the Cats lose 8-3 and were never in it giving up 5 in the first 3. 3 guys had two hits, but obviously couldn’t put them together. So the strengthened non con did not prove to do anything other than give them losses and to this point only one bad loss against Holy Cross. They still have some non cons during the season but mostly just games that can hurt instead of help. WSU and Nebraska are the only two decent win opportunities. So lots of work to do in the conference and lots to do to get the pitching shored up.

Next up is conference opener against Cincinnati this weekend in Manhattan. Need to start with a sweep.

Against Clemson, the Cats got down but started climbing back a little but a poor fielding error by KC that cost them getting out of that inning probably only down 5-2. But then giving up 3 that inning pretty much made the conclusion of the game elemental. Jones and Culpepper did nothing at the plate either. They had plenty of hits but left bases loaded once and left a lot on base.

So of the so-called notable non-cons we lost to so far Tennessee is 13-1 and ranked #4, Clemson is 10-1 and ranked #10, Arizona St is 6-6, Cal is 8-3. Of the two we beat Boston college is 7-3 and Georgetown is 6-6.

I believe the only bad loss to this point is Holy Cross and hopefully it stays that way. But will really need to do something special in conference like a top 4 finish and need to win petty much all the other non cons which consists of Nebraska x2, WSU x2, Missouri St x4, South Dakota St x2, UConn, Northeastern, Omaha.

Home and home with Nebraska and WSU. 3 for 1 with Missouri St, away for both UConn and Northeastern.

Nebraska and WSU would be quality wins. Missouri St was picked 2nd in the MVC so could be considered decent wins as well. The others would likely all be bad losses if we don’t win.
