Nice win over South Dakota St Wednesday although it didn’t appear that way at the start. Guyett got the start and he gave up a lead off double, then hit a batter then a walk and then had a grand slam hit off him and he was done. He recorded no outs and let all four who faced him score. So very tough outing. But the offense answered in the bottom of the 1st starting with a lead off homer by Ingram and it was an absolute bomb. Was said to travel nearly 480’. The Cats got 3 in the first and then shutdown SDS and put up a 10 spot in the 2nd. They only allowed one more run, put up 3 more of their own for a 16-5 win. It’s what good teams should do against lesser opponents.

Now they have a weekend series against Missouri St who is a decent ball team and were picked preseason 2nd in the MVC. So need to come out ready and focused and take care of business to get a sweep, because they really need to start stacking wins now with the initial non con barely over .500.

One big question will be Boerema. He’s not been good his last two starts so what kind of stuff will he have and what will be his mindset.
always appreciate your summaries, bhoovy.

Cats win 7-3 over Missouri State. Literally knocked out the MS pitcher in the first with a line drive. Wentworth closed it out with three perfect innings and seven K’s.

Not shocking but pretty obvious that the fate of this season will come down to the pitching. The offense seems like they have the ability to score runs, especially the top of the order, but the pitching just has to be better. Hate to waste the talent of that lineup.

Cats rally for 12-6 win. Trailed 6-2 in the sixth. Starters are still shaky but pen has been solid this weekend. Boerema goes tomorrow and we need him to regain last years stuff.

Well it didn’t start off like it was going to be, but a very solid game by the Cats in a 12-6 win over Missouri St.

Frost got the start and walked the lead off, got an out, walked another, got an out and then he gave up the one hit for the inning and it was a 3-run homer. He just didn’t have his good control. Cats got one back big Missouri St got one in the 3rd and 2 in the 4th to go up 6-2. Cats got one in the 6th and the pitching started to hold and then came the 7th inning and the Cats put up an 8 spot to take a 11-6 lead. They added one more in the 8th on a Brady Day homer.

Frost only went 3.2, gave up 6 runs on 6 hits with 4 k’s. Wisenbaker came in and was nails going 3.1, not allowing a hit and striking out 6. Dean got the last two innings and allowed 2 hits and struck out one.

Ingram was 3-5 with a homer. Culpepper was 3-4. Days was 2-4 with a homer. Parsons started for Rivera at 3rd and went 2-5 with 2 huge hits.

Our lineup is ridiculous right now.
Ingram .353
Jones .343
Culpepper .307
Day .400
English .335
Pelletier .292
Lodice .312
Bishop .291
Parsons .500 in limited AB’s
Rivera is the only one struggling at .213.

If we can get our pitching staff healthy and continue to get good outings from the bullpen they could really make a run. I don’t think we have anyone who doesn’t have a 90+ mph fastball. Lots of arm talent, just have to become consistent and figure out how to pitch.

Go for the sweep tomorrow against Missouri St, which they really need to do and Missouri St isn’t a slouch. They’re not a Holy Cross. UMass-Lowell or South Dakota St. So decent wins.

Get the sweep and then got a midweek at Wichita State who is having a good year and then down to Houston for the first conference road series.

Really nice game today from the Cats. Boerema went 8 innings, only allowed 2 hits and had 5 k’s. The offense didn’t just explode but took advantage of walked and hit batters to win it 11-3. It was a shutout going into the 9th but Martinez allowed 3 runs i a bit of a shaky appearance.

Culpepper was 3-5, Day was 2-4 and Rivera was 2-3 with 4 RBI’s. Schwalback got a rare pinch hit and wasted no time taking the first pitch he saw over the right field fence.

Very good series for the Cats. Did exactly what they needed. Offense was good. Got Boerema back on track and got a sweep.

Now a midweek against WSU who’s trying to sweep Gonzaga this afternoon. Then go on the road next weekend for the first road conference series with Houston.

Around the league ku lost 2 of 3 to Cincinnati and just evaded a no hitter yesterday, got blasted today 10-1. TCU is trying to avoid get swept by OU after losing the series to ku last weekend. Ou is the only team left unbeaten in conference. OSU is trying to salvage a game with UCF. Baylor trying to take a series from Tech. Texas is trying to keep from being swept by Washington. After losing their opening series BYU took the series with WVU. So Cats hanging right in there.

Cats rally past Wichita State 8-6 after trailing 4-1. A bullpen game using five pitchers. First four were average or worse. Coach Hughes brings Wentworth in to start the seventh with a 7-6 lead and he totally shuts the door with three perfect innings (other than an error). He did that on 26 pitches-impressive!!

Yeah nice road win for the Cats. 3 of our first four pitchers gave up two runs their first inning. Buss did not his one inning. But Wentworth was nails for the last 3. No hits and 5 K’s. He’s showing what all the hype was about when he first came in. If we could get Tyler and they would be an incredible 1-2 punch. Offense was okay. Did just enough.

Really big series with Houston this weekend. Win that and we’ll be off to a good start.
