Lost 9-6. Cats blow another resume building win.

Were up 3-0 after their at bat in the 3rd but gave up a 3 run homer in the bottom. Gave up the lead and then tied it and then again gave it up and tied it. Then gave up 2 and then Neighbors gave up 2 more. He’s clearly not in top form. That’s back to back games he’s come in and gave up runs.

So 2-2 on their road trip to start the season and will have their home opener Friday against Holy Cross. Can’t drop games against lesser opponents. Really going to need to get at least one of the two against Clemson and Tennessee. Tonight and Cal were games there for the taking.

Well there’s certainly wasn’t a lot of quality pitching but the cats win game one 17-11.

Fell behind 4-0 after Holy Cross first AB. And was also down 6-2. Took a 7-6 lead but again fell behind 9-8. Sent 9 hitters to the plate in the 8th and took control.

Ruhl started and left in the second with discomfort in his forearm. So some concern there.

Really, really, really bad loss today losing to Holy Cross in 10 innings. 13-10.

They’re a bad team, going 16-35 last year.
But the starting pitching has just not been good as they gave up 4 in the first yesterday and 5 in the first today.

They fought back and had it tied at 9 going to the bottom of the 8th, but couldn’t get the big hit with a runner on 2nd and no out. In the 10th with two on and no out, they got a K and then had HC’s big stick come up. I just said don’t give him anything good and then it was gone. A 3 run homer and then a passed ball got another runner on, which they then hit a double and scored again. Cats let 9 batters come to the plate.

There was also an unearned run earlier in the game when an infield pop fly landed on the infield, allowing a run to score with two outs.

Tonight was the same junk that the last two teams have allowed that’s help keep them from the post season. Not only missing out on padding the win column with another W, getting a poor loss.

And HC has out hit the Cats in both games.
Cats also left 10 runners on base. Was a really poor outing by the Cats and are now only .500 in the first 6 games. Not a good start at all.

They play again tomorrow in what will be the rubber game against a poor team at 11am.

The HC kid that hit the 3 run homer in the 10th had struck out 4 out of 5 plate appearances.

Yes that will go down as a BAD loss.

Cats win the rubber game in unimpressive fashion 5-4. Had a 5-1 lead and nearly blew it.

Borema was good. Went 5-2/3 and struck out 11. Wentworth finished it off and was decent.

But plenty of poor AB’s. They let a true frosh come in for the last 3 innings and I believe only allowed one hit. A true frosh at Holy Cross. Not Texas or TCU or OSU or even Clemson but Holy Cross. I don’t think any of the HC pitchers hit 90 mph and a lot of pitches in the upper 70’s. Just not the way you wanted to see the season get started.

They have another lightweight next weekend with UMass-Lowell. If they struggle again the hype may of just been that, hype and no substance. I know it’s very early but we’ve said that the last two years and look how the season has ended. No post season.

Cats beat UMass-Lowell 10-1.
Pitching was much better. 5 pitchers give up 6 hits with 13 K’s and 1 BB. Borema started and just pitched 2 innings before he was pulled. The assumption is he will start Tuesday at Tennessee, so just basically like a bullpen session.

Day had a 4-4 day with a homer and 5 RBI’s. Culpepper was 2-5 with a homer. No one else did that much as they only had 9 hits. Offense is yet to really get on track. Some bad AB’s today with Ingram going 0-5.

Game two tomorrow at 1pm.

Cats come out and finally do what they’re supposed to against an inferior opponent and win 17-3. Top of the lineup was really good with 1-4 getting 13 hits. All got at least 3 and Ingram got 4, hitting in the lead off for the first time.

Frost did a nice job with the start. Home runs by Jones, English and Pellitier.

Supposed to be extremely strong winds tomorrow so could be HR derby in the finale.

Cats finish off the final game of the set 10-1 and get the sweep. For the weekend and the cats outscored UMass-Lowell 37-5. So that’s a step in the right direction. Both Ingram and Culpepper were really off today but others stepped up which is exactly what you need them to do. Started off slow and they didn’t score until the 5th, but finally broke through and only allowed the one.

Now it’s off to Tennessee on Tuesday and over to Clemson on Wednesday to see what they’re really made of. Really need at least one of the two to help the resume.
