Not surprisingly, KSU lost 3-0 to nebraska 25-21, 25-15, 25-19 . Played pretty well in the first set, not so well in the 2nd, 3rd set started off pretty well, but too many mistakes from KSU. So we are no where near ready for a top level team. Next big match will come against a currently ranked Rice team after playing Lipschomb and UT martin (both games we should win).
I am happy we took the match and NU agreed to play in Manhattan. At this point I have to believe it is good for the program to take on Top 10 teams to see what we have to do to compete.
I agree. I have a good friend who took over our HS volleyball team years ago. At that time, the players were afraid of Bishop Carroll so he immediately tried to schedule them as often as possible. A couple of years later they competed with them and sometimes won. A great record playing poor teams does very little to help your team develop.

Pretty easy win against UT Martin ,25-14,25-12,25-13.https://www.kstatesports.com/boxscore.a ... l&id=18263
Not much to note since it wasn't on ESPN+. Gregorski struggled from an attacking perspective, but she did have 5 service aces. Several players got some additional playing time Lipscomb is up next on ESPN+ today.

Ugh lost in 5 to Lipscomb:( Up 10-5 in the 5th, but still lost. Good teams don't lose these games so this one is going to hurt KSU chances to shot to make the tournament. We will likely need to upset Rice (likely needed this anyways) and pull a couple upsets in the Big12 (and not lose any games we should win) . Lipscomb barely beat UT Martin in 5. KSU throttled UT martin in 3. Ugh again.

Next up is LIU and Rice at home.

Went back and watched first 2 sets. Ugh x10. We have a passing problem that is going to limit any upside this team may have. :banghead: :banghead:

I see ksu beating OU, TTech,WVU, and cincy . If our passing doesn’t get better , we could lose some of these as well .

Rice almost lost to LIU today. I didn't see that happening. KSU really need to pull this win against Rice to show we can beat decent teams though Rice also looks very inconsistent. Our path to the tournament also is going to need to pull some Big12 upsets which I don't think we can do yet. Maybe a solid win against Rice can restore post season hope.

Lost in 3 to Rice. Probably predictor that KSU isn't ready to beat the better teams in the big 12:( several things we could change to pass better, but doesn't seem like the staff wants to do it.

FROM THE HEAD COACH
Head Coach Jason Mansfield
On the fight he saw from the team…
"I think today showed our character and how competitive we are, that we will continuously fight. I was proud of how we battled against a really good team. They didn't play their best against LIU, but I knew they were a very talented team and had the opportunity to come out and play really well today. They stepped up and made a lot of plays today, but we kept the battle going. We fought for every point and at this level competing is a core value of ours. We have to find a way to compete and make more plays."

On heading into Big 12 play…
"We have the people in this program and on the court that can be successful. We have players with good experience, playing college volleyball or certainly in the Big 12. So I think that's a good place to be. Just have to make plays. We have to make more plays more often in order to give us ourselves the best chance to win."
===============================
Losing 3-0 in your home tournament is not good. But KSU is a patient employer. Look at Coach Mittie, he is going into year 10.

Coach's comments kind of vanilla and stays pretty positive overall. I thought we could be on the bubble this year, but it is kind of a thin path to make it to the tournament now 10 wins in the big 12 would get us in, but I'm not sure 9 would get us in (maybe if we upset Texas/BYU, but that seems unlikely). I think we get 4-6 wins with the way we are playing now. I do think Coach did a reasonable job on the recruiting front. He has some more creativity than prev staff from offense perspective, but we can't pass so it doesn't matter yet.
