Looks like we picked up Dom Johnson from Okie State on the transfer market. Perfect Game had him as a top 150 recruit out of high school...
Wow. Where did you see that.

Dom Johnson was ranked a 10 by Perfect Game. He runs a 6.22 60 which put him in the 99.89% of his class as the average is 7.22. So he’s a blazer. Had an above average arm and had an above average exit velo hitting. He was the #5 recruit out of OK and the #2 OF. He was the #24 OF nationally and the #126 player overall nationally. He’s also said to be a possible middle infielder. And finally it’s says he a very good student. If both or either Kokoska and Phillips are gone he seems like a great replacement. To go along with the true frosh Uselan.

Dom was part of OSU’s 2019 recruiting class that was a top 5 class by Perfect Game.

Dom didn’t have an impressive frosh season. Played in 15 games and started 5. Batted .154 with 2 hits in 13 AB’s, with 3 BB’s and 8 K’s. But with only getting an opportunity to play in less than a third of their games he really never got a chance to get it going. Hopefully he’s got rid of the freshman jitters and can comes in a little more relaxed and comfortable.

If Willman is being let go by Hughes then he better know he has better talent coming in because Cam checked a lot of boxes. Hovered around .300 the entire season. Started at short but was moved to 2nd after his injury. While not necessarily a power guy does have pop with I believe 5 homers. And while not a big base stealer, has good wheels. Could swipe a bag at any given time and go 1st to 3rd on a base hit. Would have been a solid SS substitute to give Goodwin a rest or if he has an illness or injury that would keep him out for any time.

Supposedly he has a JC kid coming in that plays 2nd who showed everything you’d like with very nice average, nice on base %, lots of steals (20+) and scored a bunch of runs. But if he doesn’t come in and produce right away, losing Cam will be a black eye for Hughes.

Also Elijah Dale, who was a 2019 frosh and again a frosh last year because of Covid, was a 9 by Perfect Game who was recruited with his primary position being shortstop. He was used in the bull pen by showing he could hit about 90. But I believe the KSU broadcast team said he came in with some high expectations as a middle infielder, just was unable to break into the lineup.

In regards to draft details, Phillips was a huge standout in the Met's midwest showcase a couple weeks ago. It's looking increasingly likely he'll go top 10 rounds. He's got Wicks' agent working for him now and rumored to have several teams in on him. Koko didn't do as hot in the showcase, but neither did Hardman from OU so who knows how much value they put into it.

So if Kokoska and Phillips are both gone then all the starting OF will need to be replaced, as Littlejim played the vast majority of center. Blake Burrows probably got the next most starts and he’s in the portal by his choice or being suggested by the staff.

That leaves Dom Hughes, Cole Johnson who was a transfer from TCU, Cam Uselton, Kayden Fowler who was a transfer from Georgia and now Dom Johnson transferring from OSU. May be someone else in the the recruiting class who could enter into the mix. Hughes has shown he has no problem playing frosh with putting Goodwin in at shortstop and hitting in the top 4.

Wicks goes first round, Kokoska late tenth. Big question mark is if Phillip's signs tomorrow or elects to return to Manhattan. Some super strange picks in the late rounds, looks like teams ran out of bonus money and started picking 5th year seniors and what not.

So just Wicks (1st round), Seymour (6th round), Kokoska (10th round) and Torres (14th round) only Cats selected.

Will be interesting to see what Phillips and McCollough do now and if Torres now goes or comes back. He’s only a sophomore so still has that year of leverage.

No doubt those 3 would help the team tremendously if all return for next year.
