MANHATTAN, Kan. (WIBW) -- Fresh of taking the K-State Wildcats to the Elite Eight, Bruce Weber was given a two-year contract extension on Friday.
Weber is now under contract through the 2023 season. The seventh-year head coach will be paid $2.5 million in 2018-19 and receive a $100,000 increase to his salary in each remaining contract year culminating in a $2.9 million base for the 2022-23 season.
“We are very fortunate to have not only such an outstanding basketball coach but also a man in Coach Weber who conducts his program with integrity and class and is widely respected across the nation,” said K-State Athletics Director Gene Taylor in a statement. “Certainly last season was one of the most memorable postseason runs in our program’s history, and we are excited for next season and the years ahead under Coach Weber’s leadership.”
Weber was hired by K-State in 2012 and has gone 125-80 since then.

I think many schools are too quick to pull the trigger on coach fires and hires. It is all very tenuous. Without the recruitment of Dean and Barry our program may have had a very different experience the last couple of years. I think the key is hiring a proven guy and then giving him the support and time to have success. It often takes a ton of patience and some good coaches never get over the hump. Fortunately this bunch was able to have some success. However, just like with any investment of time and resources, past results are no guarantee of future performance.

Good for Coach Weber. I hope we can keep our assistants around for a while, as well. I like this staff that Coach has put together.
