K-State Falls in First Round to UC-Irvine

Kansas State fell today to 13 seed UC Irvine 70-64 in the round of 64. Senior Barry Brown Jr. received his second foul less than four minutes into the game. In a move that’s become a bit controversial around the fanbase, head coach Bruce Weber benched Brown for the remainder of the half.

Even without Brown, K-State stretched their first half lead to as high as 10, before UC-Irvine came back to ultimately tie it at the half with a buzzer beating three pointer. The lead switched back and forth several times in the second half before UC-Irvine went on a run and went ahead for good.

UC-Irvine has now won 17 games in a row, and will face red-hot Oregon on Sunday. Kansas State finishes the year at 25-9, and co-champions of the Big XII.
