Re: College Admissions Scandal

Cheating, in various ways, and on various levels has existed for a long time in College sports. Just follow the money. Back in 70-71 while at a university in Illinois I became acquainted with a football player who had been recruited from Arizona. We had one class together. he told me that in every class he took, he made a C grade. He said all he did was after the first class of each course he would tell the teacher he was on a football scholarship and he would always get a C no matter what. In the class we shared, every week we had to write an abstract on a professional journal article. I wrote one and got an A on it. He took my abstract, against my wishes, retyped it word for word and turned it in two weeks later under his signature and was given a C grade for it. Go figure. :) That was the last time I let him see my work!

Price the schools in the Heart of America, Benedictine, Wm Jewell, Baker, etc.
those schools may charge a lot but their academics are not top 50 like bc and wake. that's why parents work to get their kids a slot in those two universities, sometimes nefariously, i guess.

William Jewell College's ranking in the 2019 edition of Best Colleges is National Liberal Arts Colleges, 155. Its tuition and fees are $34,400 (2018-19). USNews
Oh I agree. I do find fault with how those rankings are figured.

us news uses a lot of quantitative stuff that brings question as to the ranking validity, i agree. things like faculty salary, alumni giving, budget per student, and the like. having graduated from a small college, recruited for a fortune 10 company on campuses across the country, and taught some at k-state, i have never ever understood why people pay $50,000/year to send their youngsters to college other than pure hubris.

You have a good vantage point to view this issue based upon the experience listed above. All we disagree about apparently, is our definition of how many prestigious universities there are out there. To me that list is no more than a Top 25 at the very most but it is just an opinion just like your opinion that the list extends at least to Wake Forrest at a US News #38, fair enough you are entitled to your opinion as I am to mine.

Pocahontas WAS Native American but never had an Ivy League job because there was no Ivy League back in the early 1600's when she was associated with the colonial settlement at Jamestown, Virginia.
Yes, you are right, she IS Native American, 1/1024th.
Pocahontas was 100% Native American.

So what is going to happen to the kids that got in and should not have been admitted? Will they let them stay or expel them? They should have known the test score was not theirs. They should also have been suspicious to be given extra time on the tests.
