Hopefully Lawson won’t be guarded by any of those 4 by that time.

I bet we start Mak on Lawson. With KU going small, Lawson is their only player with size. Mak will probably get in foul trouble, but with Lawson’s inside to out game Mak’s length and strength should make him work for his points. Also we won’t want to put Dean into a position to pick up early fouls - and Lawson gets people to foul him. The guys playing the “4” in KU’s small ball lineup are not offensive threats. And on the other side it puts KU in a bind on D. Lawson has to guard Mak - who is left to guard Dean? Just like last year, they have no one to match up with him. If KU somehow gets Silvio eligible, it changes things.

If Wade's back I dont think we can afford to have him potentially get in foul trouble guarding Lawson. We'll just have to let those other guys burn through their fouls trying to stop him.

A lot of assumptions about Frank but none the less, all of those guys you listed were guards. Bruce has recruited some solid guards, but to say it's fact that he recruited better than Frank, even guards compared to guards is pretty iffy.

At the 1, you're comparing Clemente, Angel, vs Stokes, Diarra
At the 2, you're comparing Pullen vs Brown, Foster
At the 3, you're comparing McGruder vs Iwundu, Sneed

Sure, there are advantages of some over the other, but pretty hard to say 1 is clearly better at recruiting talent that the other, even at Guards.
Pullen was recruited by Huggins, not Martin.
Martin was the recruiter and main reason Pullen signed here.

I think that's a given regardless :banghead: But yes, keeping Dean out of foul trouble will be paramount

The big men probably miss Dean more than anyone. Some seem to forget how little these guys have played. Mawien has only played a year and a half so far, and he has a year and a half to go. He is bigger, stronger, and at times better than when he got here, but he is still a work in progress. Without Dean to run the offense and attract the attention of some of the opposing big men, Makol is very inconsistent. Not a surprise.

Levi is similar, but with even less experience on the court. Trice is new to KSU and DI basketball. Until he gets the free throw monkey off his back, he will be limited in his ability to help. As Learning pointed out, it is free throws under pressure that kill him. He can shoot practice free throws pretty well. Remember that he has never played in front of a crowd of the size he is seeing at KSU.

Love has almost no experience on the court, so as a redshirt sophomore he is still very raw as a big man. That is not unusual for a big man. Having Dean on the court would help any of these guys to contribute. In the mean time, all they can do is the best they can. Over time, experience will probably help them to develop. Shadd is a redshirt freshman, so he has three more years to develop beyond this one. Given his size, it is probably worth while to be patient with him.

I'm curious why Muldoon hasn't seen any playing time?

Likely too small to play the 4 and too slow to play the 3.

Maybe but a good question.
One thing for sure. Levi must show a lot in practice for the coaches to continue to give him as many minutes. Maybe he'll start to show more in games in the future. Although if we get Dean back his minutes will go surely go down.
