it seems to me that getting another year out of taylor portier is really special for the offense. remember at one time, before his injury, klieman said portier was the best lineman on the team that included cooper beebe. with a solid sam hecht at center and versatile andrew leingang likely opposite portier? state brings back more quality experience than originally thought. taylor, out of bishop miege, is also a big personality team leader. he was one of klieman's original recruits.

I have no concerns at all about the talent level for next year, especially on the OL. I do have serious concern about the experience level, and judging by the fact that the staff went out and got some OL dudes in the portal to plug and play along the OL, I'm guessing there is some merit to the concern. There's going to be some challenges getting the OL to gel early on. I would expect as they play together more, that things will smooth out.
TP is going to be a critical piece to the OL next year and I hope he can stay healthy and play every snap, except for blow out mop up time. Would love to see him have a great final year, stay healthy and go on to play in the NFL.

There are going to be a lot more posting of players leaving with that roster trimming thing. All the walk-ons will likely be let go. which means the smaller D1s and D2 football in the state is going to get a lot better real fast.

It's really a shame that schools are being forced to cut players. It would be nice if something akin to an NFL practice squad was allowed by the NCAA. The players wouldn't be on scholarship (just like walk-ons aren't on scholarship), but could still practice with the team and be "called up" to the roster if needed, say due to injuries. That also allows them time in the team's system so that if/when they move up to the roster as they get older and stronger, they would be more familiar with the system and with their teammates. Just a thought.
