I agree, but we've gotta get more "dog" in our defending. Until then, we're gonna lose games vs good teams.powercat95 wrote: ↑November 20th, 2023, 9:57 amNo shame in losing to an outstanding Miami team, on a day when we are ice cold shooting from 3, plus missing several players. I loved how we kept playing hard to make it close(r) at the end. Our team will be fun to watch, especially as they develop and we get all the players back!

I think the team will improve. I don't think it will be significant. We lost two first team all big 12 players. It will be hard to replace that.bhoovy wrote: ↑November 19th, 2023, 5:07 pmWhat?? Nobody knew what we really had at this point last year. We didn’t play anyone like Providence or Miami on last year’s non con schedule. Kamula is actually is expected to be at least as high if not higher draft pick. Perry can shoot better that Nowell. McNair is better than Iyiola. Ames, Glover and Jones will make up for Desi and then some. Carter is much better this year. N’Gussan is what he is. Rich just needs a little time and experience. He can be like Miami’s Omier only I think more explosive.bigpurpleman wrote: ↑November 19th, 2023, 4:53 pmThis team will get better, but I don’t think significantly better. Very difficult to replace the type of talent we lost. Defense is about effort and “want to”. We don’t seem to put out enough effort and “want to” into stopping the other team. We will struggle against good offensive teams.
We certainly have the chance to be as good if not better.
It seems we as Cats fans don’t want to believe we can have good teams too. We have coaches now that can and are making that happen. Believe.

no ten point summary on this one. can't expect to win without two, maybe three, starters available. nijel was awesome.

I don't get the lack of love for N'Gussan, moves very well on the court, rarely forces a bad shot, good rebounder, and finishes at the rim on pick and rolls, moves the ball around the outside, and tries hard on defense. Does need cut down on moving screens.

I can't wait to see him and Tomlin on the hardcourt, playing together. Spectacular.pharaohcat wrote: ↑November 20th, 2023, 1:11 pmI don't get the lack of love for N'Gussan, moves very well on the court, rarely forces a bad shot, good rebounder, and finishes at the rim on pick and rolls, moves the ball around the outside, and tries hard on defense. David’s okay. He’s not great, he’s not lousy. He just pretty much is what he is. I was hopeful his game would evolve a little more. He got to go play with his national team, men, and I was just hoping to see a little more. But he has a role and fills it pretty well. With just he, Cam and Tomlin as the only returning players who got significant minutes I was hoping we’d see a little more and especially with Tomlin out for an indefinite time.
He runs the floor very well. Runs pick and roll good. Does okay with defensive rebounding. Is an okay defender. He’s not a 3 point shooter at all. Doesn’t really have a low post game, he gets his points by being the recipient of some driving and dishing. But he does seem to be in the right place to make himself available and has pretty good hands.

He is also averaging 7.8 rebounds a game in 26 minutes. .587 true shooting % is really good even though a little lower than last year. Really good on ball screen defense.bhoovy wrote: ↑November 20th, 2023, 5:44 pmDavid’s okay. He’s not great, he’s not lousy. He just pretty much is what he is. Has difficulty guarding bigger post men. Needs to make free throws.

I would very much like to face Miami again at full strength. I trust that Ames and Tomlin together could have hit another 3, 3-Pt. shots and or a combination of Trey's by Ames and a couple of put-backs by Tomlin.wild@nite wrote: ↑November 20th, 2023, 10:20 amI agree, but we've gotta get more "dog" in our defending. I would agree. I don’t think Miami can play a whole lot better or were without any primary contributors, but the Cats can certainly play better and we know we were missing key players.
Tang has said he’s not concerned about playing their best ball right now, but starting playing it once we hit late February. And last years squad wasn’t playing that great at this point last year, but didn’t play anyone like Providence or Miami. Remember they barely beat a pedestrian WSU at home. So while we’d all like to win every game, I’m not concerned with where this team is at right now.
