Yeah, unfortunately we probably shouldn't invite anyone else right now. I think that we should focus on building those other programs up (as well as ours) and see how the next dominos fall 10-15 years from now. We'll possibly be able to add Pac12 or ACC schools at some point. I do believe that SMU and Memphis deserve to be in the Big 12 as much as some of these other schools though, so I'd like to invite those two if we were going to add any. The SMU vs TCU or Houston or Tech or Baylor rivalry would be great, and Memphis has been investing a lot in their athletics. I could see them winning a national championship in basketball sometime in the near future. I believe they currently have the #1 recruiting class in b-ball right now. I hope we don't regret missing out on them later on.
I don’t think Memphis would have anywhere to go besides us or the ACC. And for the foreseeable future, the ACC won’t take Memphis without some major improvements or if Clemson and Florida State leave. Penny hasn’t gotten the basketball team to the tournament in the past 3 years, so I’m gonna say they probably won’t be winning a championship anytime soon either to boost their brand.
Very good points. I might be getting a little ahead of myself. I do think Penny will get them going eventually, but until he does it's all theoretical.

This new conference is going to be bad ass. UCF is a sleeping giant. 70,000 students, huge media city, crazy football energy.
they have gus malzahn as head coach, and i doubt he ever leaves. UCF will surpass miami, a small private school with no fans, and it may rival fsu and florida.

BYU is a national brand. Likely a better brand than anyone left in the big 12.

Cinn-ohio recruiting, media market, basketball, plus some football success.

Houston gives us nothing. Id rather have had memphis.

Memphis is the only team we dont have that id consider adding.

in 4 years we may be able to add our choice of left behind acc schools.
These schools can help elevate the Big12 brand. We need to win as many OOC games as we can. We need to send someone from the new big12 to the playoffs and win. 3 of the 4 and possibly all 4 are better current football programs than Texas. Hopefully the “humans” in the polls see it that way and won’t underrate all big 12 teams because they’re not name Texas and OU.

I agree Nolaeer, Now that UCF is in a P5 conference they could certainly pass Miami in Florida and become the new member of the big 3. They have a large group of students at their games creating excitement. And the Orlando area has around 35 D1 recruits each year and 70 miles down I-4 the Tampa area has about 40 D1 recruits. There's around 350 D1 recruits in the state and Florida and Florida State usually take the 4 and 5 stars that they want. Miami gets the recruits in SE Florida but their recruiting has falling behind. Just watch the talent level go way up at UCF.
And hopefully that also means KSU starts getting into Florida more for recruits. We currently have 2 guys from the Tampa Metro. Unfortunately Iowa State has been recruiting Florida for several years now and have 3 players signed from 3 different schools in the Tampa metro. But none of them have played in a game below 45 degrees so we'll see if they stay after their first winter in Ames.

Thanks tm. Yeah I’m pumped. These are pretty much the teams most wanted with maybe Houston being a little less popular. But this conference has a chance to be every bit as good. While this isn’t what it’s about, it should be even tougher in basketball if that’s possible.

New Conference mates are all playing well. Cincinnati is ahead of Ohio State in polls. UCF, if it defeats Louisville (They are 7 points favorite), has a chance to be ranked. BYU is now ranked as well with 2 victories over PAC 12.

Yeah, that was bad form on his part. If KU was so desirable by the Big Ten, they would already be there. There are several Pac-12 and ACC schools that are more desirable to the Big Ten, should they decide to expand.

KU could still get in, but a lot of other schools would have to tell the Big Ten "No thanks" first.
