I do disagree with people (talk radio) stating it was a program shaking loss. If you lose to Kansas that is program shaking. Coming up short to a solid sun belt team is not good, but far from horrible. KSU was without their best weapon Youngblood, they win if he was healthy.
Since 2000, here are the worst losses IMO ranked only by date.
2019 - Loss at home to 5-7 WVU team
2017 - Loss @ 5-7 Vanderbilt
2015 - Loss @ 5-7 Texas
2013 - Loss at home to 15-0 FCS NC NDSU
2010 - Loss @ 5-7 Colorado
2009 - Loss @ 6-6 Louisiana-Layette
2008 - Loss @ 5-7 Louisville (when they were in the Big East)
2008 - Loss @ 5-7 Colorado
2007 - Loss @ 3-9 Iowa State
2007 - Loss @ 5-7 Nebraska
2006 - Loss @ 4-8 Baylor
2006 - Loss @ 6-6 Kansas
2005 - Loss at home to 5-6 Texas A&M
2004 - Loss @ 4-7 Kansas
Arkansas State went 8-5 last year. Sagarin rankings has Arkansas going 9-3 and finishing 2nd in the Sun Belt West behind Louisiana. If there are bowls, they would make their 10th straight. I wouldn't think that would rank all that bad compared to these other losses.
