I will bet Hazleton takes at least one assistant with him to Michigan State. Just a guess but that is usually how these things play out.
Going to be hard when Mel Tucker has filled all 10 of his assistant coaching spots. Hazelton was the 10th, and final, position to be hired.
It will be curious to see what he does with Mike Tressel. Mike was the interim HC and the DC/LB coach. With Scottie being hired to be the DC, and he also has experience with LB, what will Mike do? Is he going to get tagged with a Co-DC title along with Scottie? Although he is being retained, you have to wonder if he is now searching around for a new spot with the news that he won't be the full, and maybe not even the Co, DC anymore. Mike was also previously the highest paid assistant for MSU before the coaching change.

I strongly believe that Coach Klieman will find the right person to fill the DC position. With Klieman being a former DC, we shouldn't see much of a drop off on that side of the ball. The guy I really hope we can keep around is Van Malone. He is a good coach and a great recruiter for us. He may be another one of those coaches that the bigger schools try to lure away.

Reading this it becomes apparent that college is getting increasingly screwed up both in academia and athletics. Money rules and many of our young people graduate neck deep in debt. Time to clean house and realign our priorities.

It dont matter! The next guy who proves his worth will be gone just as fast as coach Haz. Football is all about the benjamins and guess what folks? We only have Franklin's! Get use to it and put your support behind the next guy!

If that's the case, then I understand not matching that offer.
Great. So let's go hire a recruiter that takes a commission. Pay a signing bonus to the new guy. Spend weeks and week and hours and hours looking for the next person, at who knows how much cost internally...so we can save 400k a year and risk a crappy defense again and a half-full stadium again.
I get your frustration, but if we're going to get CK the 3.5 million he's going to earn with another 8-4 type season, we have to be smart. CK is a defensive guy. Maybe, just maybe he has another good one in mind.
I hate losing Scottie, but maybe there will be a silver lining in this.

Or I understand reality of how things work. If the $1 million a year for Scottie is accurate, that's the 20th highest paid assistant in the nation. KSU can not afford that, it's a simple as that. KSU is not Alabama, Clemson, Oklahoma, Texas, etc.
Clemson. 23,000 students in South Carolina. Which is 13 spots below Kansas on per capita income.
But hey, everyone makes their own reality.
Umm.... Death Valley seats 82,000 people, or 30,000 more than our stadium. 30,000 times $60 a ticket is almost another $2 million in revenue per game. That's $12-$14 million more per year and that's a low ball on just tickets alone because the "average" ticket price is $65. That alone makes up for what they can pay their coaches.

KSU athletics budget is pushing $85 Million - i don't want to hear anything about not being able to afford a coach in the main moneymaker sport.

Just saw this thread. Sorry to see him go, but I guess I don't consider it the program killer that some apparently do. The fact that he got hired away for a better salary, at an at-least equal level program, says that he was doing a good job, which was good for our team. Under Coach Snyder, at least towards the end of his run, nobody came looking to hire away any of our assistants. There was a reason for that.
I think we can all calm down and I expect Coach Kli to find a good replacement.

Total budget doesn't mean surplus. Michigan States is $130 million. Your point is?

And that ranks in the 50s of all college programs. So CK ranked around 62nd for pay in his first year isn't that far off.
