If the change occurs (and it likely will), it will move major D1 sports closer to the NBA annual free for all. This will fit nicely with the name/image/likeness pay-to-play scheme.
I can think of several budding players from last year’s team that would be targeted by other programs. Will players be able to dart from December through August? Can you imagine the domino effect of one key transfer?

People aren't satisfied until something good is completely ruined. The student athlete. LOL.... It's minor league free agency. Let's cut through the BS and call a spade a spade. If they do this, then it is even more imperative that the scholarships get reduced to 80 or less and the playoff gets bumped to 16 or college football will be destroyed, imo. Right now, only about 10 teams have a prayer of a national title. This will move it to 5 or 6 if scholarships remain at 85 with a 4 team playoff.

It's another move to help the Top Tier teams. They can go after the Top recruits at other teams which might be struggling and offer them a lot more exposure on a team that can get a national championship. A lot of kids will bite, since they won't have to wait a year. It's going to be college free agency in the offseason.
College Sports are going to look mightily different in 5 years.

So now instead of Alabama and Ohio state recruiting high schools, they can just recruit kids from other FBS schools to transfer and play right away. I love KSU but if this immediate eligibility passes I might be done with college sports- it’s all tilted towards the big boys and I’m not going to waste my time with it or support it.

The national angst about finding a #1 in everything is behind this move. Why do we 'have' to have a 'real' national champion in FB? What was wrong with the polls selecting a national champion after all the bowl games are played? Then, we have a national debate/discussion for 8 months about who was really #1. Sometimes, maintaining the status quo is the best -- the status quo being the way college football was in thd 1960s and 70s.
I would support the 80 scholarship limit.

this is driven by culture, government, media (jay bilas), and particularly progressive thought, i.e. the politics for social reform. the individual trumps the organization.
the ncaa would never change these rules if not for government threats from places like, where else, california. it's part of the revolution.
you can imagine how long potential stars like hubert, knowles, and youngblood would last at k-state in a 'free transfer' state. grandmom gets a call. grandmom gets a car. athlete gets a transfer.
i left baseball and the nfl over free agency. i hope i don't leave k-state for that reason.

College admissions departments will be working OT determining which classes transfer and which don't OR who gives a crap? Just let them play sports, hell with the degree.
Might make me back off college sports too if the best players from teams can just bolt from 1 to another.
