The Coronavirus epidemic started in a community adjacent to China’s version of NBAF called the Chinese Institute of Virology. I’m so excited we will be having a similar faculty near my home. We will do anything for money in Kansas.

I can’t wait to have the diseases that “transfer from animals to humans with no vaccine” being studied right here in the middle of the USA and next to my house.

I appears it will employ 400 people in total from scientists to janitors. That’s a far cry from the 800 scientists and thousands or ancillary jobs originally touted.

Is it worth the risk? Ask those that live next to the only level 4 lab in housed within mainland China. There is a reason Plum Island was originally put on an island. I’ll be drinking bottled water for now on.

That’s the same level of containment as the lab in China. Look how that’s turning out. Granted, there are a dozen or so of these facilities in the US operating effectively, but they are “usually” in isolated locations.

Putting the new Bio facility where it is in Kansas was stupid. That facility deserves to be somewhere way more remote than 1/2 mile from the epicenter of KSU's sporting events. Add in the earthquake fault under Tuttle Creek Dam and the lab's location is far from ideal. I concede that it will be a big boons to economic development in Manhattan and greatly enhance the university's research profile -- until it doesn't.

This X 100. Maybe I just missed it, but why was nobody talking about this? It's a thing. Maybe that's why all the work was done at Tuttle, but with what's going to be housed in Manhattan, that seems like a gamble for sure.

It’s probably reached its limits with many MHK residents and taxpayers. High cost of housing, big property tax, large sales tax.

$500,000 plus operating loss at the discovery center last year. debt, taxes, and potholes everywhere but we have a weed museum no one attends.
