I'm very happy with a Top 25 class, regardless of where the rest of the conference lands. It makes us competitive on that front. It's a huge improvement compared to our previous years (2019: 54), (2018: 101), (2017: 92), (2016: 71), (2015: 63), (2014: 65), (2013: 47), (2012: 101). If you went blindly by recruiting rankings alone, KSU had no reason to finish in the top half of the conference, because recruiting has been poor. However, Bruce has done more with less, especially at the guard position. With some pretty talented guys coming in, you have to like our chances of improving quite a bit in upcoming seasons. 2021 needs to be a solid year of recruiting as well, and Bruce has to get over the Bigman Busts that continue to plague this team.

They only have one available scholarship and none of there current players are NBA draft guys at the moment.
Also I would bet any recruit is hesitant to play for Shaka considering job security.
Not a really big deal in all honesty.

Would be a very huge win for Weber and staff. Not only getting another top 150, but able to win the recruiting battle he’s up against for this young man at this point in the process. Lots of P5 programs trying to get him.Horses_n_Hoops wrote: ↑February 6th, 2020, 8:38 pmBruce Weber will be in to see Donavan Williams tomorrow. This happening before he visits TAMU next weekend.
Bruce clearly putting in some work.
Vandy now interested too.

How about Shareef ONeal.
We offered a scholarship to him once, and he is looking for a new school

Kid is an absolute stud. He put up 90 points in his last two games, and 44 points the night Bruce went up to see him. Even if the rankings don’t say it, I’m convinced he would be the best player in the class.bhoovy wrote: ↑February 12th, 2020, 12:10 amDonavan Williams come on down. However, the list of schools interested in him is growing, and I bet after this weekend he’s getting a lot of calls. Would love to see him come here so badly, but he’s maybe starting to be out of our range.
My thing is he knows he’s probably an NBA caliber guy (and I personally think he has that kind of potential), and it might be in his best interest to go to school that gets more attention/better record with getting players into the NBA (no offense to Bruce but it’s not like he’s been an NBA developer at K-State).

He hasn’t been super great at UCLA, but I imagine that going from Steve Alford to Mick Cronin is polar opposites. I still literally cannot believe that Cronin is the coach at UCLA.
However recruiting wise, he’s probably to good for us. I figured he’d want to stay on the west coast, but I’ve seen some twitter stuff about him wanting to go to LSU. Not so sure he’s the kind of player Bruce wants anyway.

Yeah I hear what you’re saying and you’re probably right as far as him being out of the cats range now. But as far as being seen and recognized by the league, it just doesn’t matter any more. Anyone with nba ability and talent is on the radar regardless of where they play. Ja Morant being the latest.Horses_n_Hoops wrote: ↑February 12th, 2020, 2:08 amKid is an absolute stud. And while ku has had lots of McDonald’s AA’s and 5 stars and first round picks, Self doesn’t exactly have a style that highlights a individual players abilities like some schools might.
All someone like Williams needs is a program where he gets good minutes and has at least some freedom to play his game inside the offensive scheme and he’ll be golden. He could certainly get the PT at KSU but does Bruce’s style and system allow him the freedom play to his strengths and skills?

You make a great point and I don’t disagree. My thinking is that among Top 100 recruits, it’s somewhat unpopular to go to schools like Kansas State and Virginia because of their respective coaching styles. Intense defense can win games, but that style of play is not super popular with 17 year old kids who are used to dropping 40 in a typical night. Those systems need players to buy in. In the case of Donavan, he could play here, but I’m not so sure the system is right for him, and he might be better served at a different school.bhoovy wrote: ↑February 12th, 2020, 9:59 amYeah I hear what you’re saying and you’re probably right as far as him being out of the cats range now. I really think TAMU might be a good option for him. Buzz Williams is a great coach and he’s going to rebuild that program. Williams would have a great opportunity to be starter in a high powered offensive team.
That being said I’d love for him to come here. He’s going to be a good college player.

We need a scorer and it's a great fit if you sell them we need scorers and we are going to show you how to play great defense. Its about how you sell it. Be frank about we just dont have great scoring players right now. WE have some dudes coming in and that he could put us over the top. Sell it. Quit acting like we are the second tier program. If you act like, well maybe we could be good and maybe you we could highlight your skill, he will go somewhere else. Sell we are going to be great and you will make it even greater.
