What's the chance we really have to sign X. Kelly? Isn't the late signing period tomorrow?
Transfers don't have to sign during a certain period.

Kelly recently visited Arkansas.

2019 NFL Draft from smaller schools
23rd overall - Tytus Howard from Alabama State
34th overall - Rock Ya-Sin from Temple
39th overall - Sean Murphy-Bunting from Central Michigan
55th overall - Max Scharping from Northern Illinois
60th overall - Nasir Adderley from Delaware
62nd overall - Andy Isabella from UMass
66th overall - Diontae Johnson from Toledo
69th overall - Josh Oliver from San Jose State
74th overall - Devin Singletary from FAU
82nd overall - Nate Davis from Charlotte
84th overall - Khalen Saunders from Western Illinois
85th overall - Jaylon Ferguson from Louisiana Tech
86th overall - Kahale Warring from San Diego State
91st overall - Trey Pipkins from Sioux Falls
95th overall - Oshane Ximines from Old Dominion
98th overall - Quincy Williams from Murray State
Everyone of these guys appears to be destined for enshrinement in Canton, too!! My point, although not worded very well, was that Kelly and most other college football players are going to look for a situation that will help them realize their end goal and there is definitely more attention for SEC schools than others. Right or wrong, that's the fact of the college football world.

You can tell if they are going to be in the HOF from their rookie years?

Being on the bench at a SEC school won't get much attention. Kelly learned part of that when he was over recruited at Clemson. No matter where he goes, he has to get onto the field to start with.

I can tell you 100%, if you can't beat out other good players at Clemson you aren't going to beat out very many players for NFL draft spots. Its MUCH more rare for a player not playing much at an SEC/Clemson type school and still get drafted versus being a full time player at small schools. Bottom line is, the player needs to be playing to get looks. NFL scouts will tell you - if you get it done on the field at a P5 level, all you've proven is you can do it against other P5 players (can they do it against NFL players?). If they play at an FCS level, they still need to prove that they can get it done at a higher level - but scouts will still give them looks. If a player isn't getting it done on the field versus other P5 opponents (heaven forbid they not even get on the field much), there's hardly any chance they will get it done in the NFL. The only anomalies to this are QBs at elite schools playing behind other elite QBs, and possibly back up RBs at Bama. Other than that, if a player is a position player where a team rotates that position and they still aren't getting many reps, its highly unlikely they will get drafted.

If the player wants to get drafted, they have to be on the field to showcase what they can do. Again, the only anomalies are RBs and QBs at elite programs like Bama, USC (formerly), OSU, etc. A 4 year DL player with minimal reps at Clemson tells me they aren't NFL worthy. They could be a fantastic college football player though somewhere else.

People get drafted or don't get drafted for all kinds of reasons. Ask Bryce Brown, someone that we consider one of the former players that keeps our draft streak alive.

From the sob story written about X. Kelly's mo-ped accident, it sure sounds like he's the best player to ever walk the earth, at least since the last best defensive player to walk the earth. You never know what someone thinks of their situation and why they do something.

You guys are probably right. He isn't considering an SEC school and is destined to play for the Cats and win awards...[EDIT, which I absolutely hope happens].

Headed to Arkansas per twitter. Never saw a thing anywhere about any interest between KSU and Kelly, so I don't know if he looked at us or we looked at him. Who knows. Honestly, at this point with Wiley as a senior and two juco guys, with Pola Mao, Pickle, etc, our staff might not have wanted to go the grad route at DT. Who knows. Good luck to him.

Thanks for the update. I figured that was where he was heading - there just didn't seem to be any news of interest by either party. Best of luck to him.
