A combination of talented players and good coaching made our defense fun to watch. They kept us in so many games and last night was no different. ISU is a damn good offense and we kept them in check all night. Much respect to our defense

The two things that impressed me the most with this year's defense was it's collective speed and depth.

This defense played fast. From DLine to secondary, they had pretty good speed out there. If that improves with recruiting and grad transfers, things are looking good for the future.

And when a guy went down on defense, they found another guy that would come in and get the job done.

I don't remember Snyder's teams being that way. When a guy went down then, it seemed like a massive hole was opened up in the secondary or at linebacker. Makes me think the back-ups weren't getting enough reps.

I know there will be some guys on the board that will find something to complain aboutg, but 8-4 is pretty damn good for a first year guy with a 'questionable'
amount of talent at the beginning of the year.

Agreed spot, the 'next man up' philosophy is frankly just a part of any/every football program - that's simply the nature of football - but I think several second string guys were thrown into the fire and did a phenomenal job this season.

Great thread and awesome points. The depth on defense has been so impressive. Losing your top 2 corners with one being a potential all conference type player sounds devastating, but McGee/Robinson/McPherson/Patterson all played well when they were called upon.

Scott Hazelton is a really good coach. If (big If) we can clean up tackling, this unit can be even better next year. Losing Patton, Walker, and especially Dishon will hurt but our DBs will be improved along with another year wiser for Hubert.

Let us not forget, HCCK is the winningest First year Coach in the History of K-State Football.

I agree with the comments in this thread. So pleased with the defense this year. Also of note, HCCK is a defensive-minded coach himself, so if and when the time comes that Hazelton moves on, I would expect the defensive approach to remain the same. This defense is Chris Klieman's defense, just managed by Scottie.

Yep. And outside of Coach Snyder, only three other coaches in K-State history have won eight games or more in a season. And you have to go back to the Great Depression era and before, to find them. Pappy Waldorf won a conference championship in '34, but his record was 7-2-1.
