Re: Wildcats at Red Raiders
Look - a nice win on the road. The 'Cats are 7-4. A better record than Tex-ass (OK, the 'Horns are always over-rated, but still). Playing lots of young guys. The D is playing lights out (yes, some unnecessarily aggressive penalties all year). What's not to like from a new staff? Nothing to complain about in my book!

thompson may be having an 'average' year, but have you seen the kids who step in if he goes down? the one whom everyone was so 'high' on didn't look all that impressive (if the goal is to move the team, score points). sure he was a big, raw, athletic kid. who also quit/left.xtrawildcat wrote: ↑November 23rd, 2019, 10:40 pm1. Just wish we would quit trying to run on first down against 8 men in the box. Surely they give Thompson the freedon to check to somthing else.
2, Thompson is an average qb and that makes us an average team. Hope they open that position up to competition next year.
this isn't about 'opening' anything up. It's about putting your best players on the field and fighting as hard as they can.
I'm with you on the thoughts about first down. we've become predictable. a bit too much. we aren't going to run Thompson like we did CK, nor should we. but was thinking a bit about roll-outs, underneath routes, etc. we see flashes of it.
I will say this: 2nd and 10 (incomplete pass) is probably better than 2nd and 14.
and that's as critical as I'm going to get. Defense played well. was on the field way too long and found a way.
this was a great win on the road at a team who was celebrating SENIOR day. that's tough sledding!
If you have to be persuaded, reminded, pressured, lied to, incentivized, coerced, bullied, socially shamed, guilt-tripped, threatened, punished and criminalized...you can be absolutely certain that what is being promoted is not in your best interest

Next Saturday? Same team you've seen the past several weeks. Poor discipline, can't tackle, QB that makes a great decision one play followed immediately by an idiotic one the next, swiss cheese OL against a three man rush, more penalties than three other teams combined, an anemic run game, WRs that cannot get separation, .......and one of the best punters in the nation thank God.
As I said before, how these guys beat OU is beyond me.
That said, they still have more wins than I thought they'd have for the season. LOTS of young talented kids on the roster and I have complete faith the new staff will bring in even more talent to fill the holes and depth issues we have. Frustrating as hell at times and I have to vent to move on, but the future looks bright for our program. EMAW!! Can't wait to see this team in the next 2-3 years.

In a perfect world, everyone would choose hard work, morals and ethics over obscene money and fame. And everyone outside of Lowrents would be required to be a red blooded, card carrying Payhawk hater.

Offensive playcalling was much much better in the 2nd half and conversely the defense forgot how to wrap up and make open field tackles. I have criticized messingham on this board but I give him credit for a well called 2nd half. There is abundant athleticism on defense but our discipline (both tackling and coverage) goes out the window when they get fatigued. I have faith in Coach K and hope he continues to sharpen this teams resolve.

He made a great downfield block on Youngblood's KO return as well.

Thompson is an average quarterback but I am not saying to put sombody in for him this year. I would like to see him have to compete for the job next year. He made a few good throws tonight. He got bailed out with pass interference on several balls that he underthrew, overthrew a couple that could have been touchdowns. Had happy feet all night. And to me, he is scared to take contact. But he did throw a great pass that was dropped.KITNooga wrote: ↑November 23rd, 2019, 10:58 pmthompson may be having an 'average' year, but have you seen the kids who step in if he goes down? the one whom everyone was so 'high' on didn't look all that impressive (if the goal is to move the team, score points). sure he was a big, raw, athletic kid. who also quit/left.xtrawildcat wrote: ↑November 23rd, 2019, 10:40 pm1. TT had a freshman quarterback who threw accurately and with zip on the ball. We pressured him the entire night and he was able to escape and make throws or first downs with his legs. He was the reason they were able to hang with us. Maybe we have a guy like him on the bench already. Maybe we don't. But if we are going to have a better record next year, it will take better qb play. This is Thompsons third year so I do not have much faith in him improving.

Defense is good, but tends to break down when the opposing QB begins to scramble. To many big plays on third or fourth down.gdgjr78 wrote: ↑November 23rd, 2019, 11:20 pmOffensive playcalling was much much better in the 2nd half and conversely the defense forgot how to wrap up and make open field tackles. Good win on the road against a horrible team - let’s be honest guys this team is struggling - i don’t really see any more wins this year - KU beat this team for Gods sakes - penalties, dropped passes, breakdowns again led to easy touchdowns, shoddy taclkling
Did KSU win? Are they now 7-4? Did they beat Okie-Homer? Did they beat MSU? Did they beat ChickenPluckers? Are they going to a Bowl Game?
Do they have a chance at being 8-4 or even 9-4?
You Rough Riders are never satisfied.
