Let's guess minutes per game next season
Hi everyone - I thought it would be fun to discuss how the minutes per game will be allocated next season.
Here is what I think:
Xavier - 30
Cartier - 30
Makol - 30
Mike - 25
SNW - 20
DaJuan - 15
Levi - 15
David - 15
Martavious - 10
Nigel + James + Antonio + walk-on players - 10

I like the “guess” part of the title because I can tell you right now with our new guys and practice not started it is a guess! Nobody truly knows what the new guys have to offer until they can be observed. And a few practices would tell more than preseason games. But I’ll take a shot at it for fun:
X- 34
Cartier-26
McGuirl-20
Mak-24
Sloan-20
SNW-16
Murphy-24
DaJuan G- 20
Ant. G.-6
Levi-10
Not a lot of minutes when you have 5 guards sharing playing time. I think the majority of guard minutes will change game to game depending on how their playing on a particular night. X will play a lot because he is probably our best at 2 positions. Hope it doesn’t wear him down too much. Mak will probably play more minutes but foul trouble and stamina have been problems in the past. Hope the new bigs are ok...... or we could have a long season. If the new bigs hold their own or Mak plays at a higher level for longer period of time we’ll be fine. Mak and the new bigs are the key. We’re pretty solid everywhere else.

Puff-Seems like we're 3-deep everywhere else! Mak needs to stay on the floor. I have to say last year I thought many of his "fouls" were pretty ticky-tacky, but they got called game after game so maybe there's something there I'm not seeing. Hopefully he's opening and closing two of those hand-squeezer contraptions 1,000 times a night as well.

The best thing Mak can practice is having guys throw balls at him wide left and wide right and high or low. And then try to sway him on the arm and ball ate to take it away daily. Several times a day. It can be improved. Not fixed but improved!

Maybe you can be a consultant Puff. Maybe somebody can continually poke Mak while on the bench to make him angry. Play mad Mak.

He plays kind and still has problems. If he played mad he'd foul out in 5 minutes....

As Puff said, none of us have any idea. Not even any rumors out there on who has been looking good in summer work outs.
Here is what I think:
Xavier - 30
Cartier - 30
Makol - 25
Mike - 20
SNW - 15
DaJuan - 25
Levi - 10
David - 20
Murphy - 15
A Gordon 15
I beleive Murphy and A Gordon will get around 30 minutes a game at the 4. I saw A Gordon in some workouts this summer and think he will surprise us although it is impossible to know til you see these guys in competition. How well Murphy and A Gordon play is going to be key to our ceiling. How well Cartier and Mak play will set our floor.
McGuirl shot over 40% from three in Big 12 play although fairly low volume in attempts. He has spent another summer working on his shot. If he can continue what he did the second half of last season he will be hard to keep off the floor.
SNW playing time will be interesting. Lots of fans think he will break out this year at point guard. To do that he will have to outplay Sloan and I don't think that will be an easy task.
Some rumors that DaJuan is an early entry NBA type player. Probably just hype so that will be something for all of us to make our own judgement on after we see him play.
We know less about how minutes on this team might look by mid season than any team I can recall. Can't wait to see what we have.

Good Stuff Guys. I think the staff would like for the trio of Cartier, Xavier and Makol to get 30+ mpg, but I don't see Makol getting that many minutes mainly because of foul trouble. McGuil, Sloan and Dajuan, will all be ahead of SNW, giving us 6 deep at 3 positions. In terms of Bigmen, Makol will get as many minutes as his fouling allows, and the staff seems to trust Levi a fair amount as well. Beyond them, it just depends on how quick the freshmen bigs can turn it on. I haven't seen the freshmen play (outside of highlights) so it's hard for me to gauge them right now.
