I think Minnesota for Barry
Correct. it's a summer league roster spot, so I think he would still be available to all of the other teams if he shows well in the summer. He is just representing Minnesota.

Dean actually has a spot on Cleveland and I don't believe anyone else can sign him after the summer unless he is released. He is basically on retainer. He could probably make more money over seas (initially), but the 2-way contract keeps him much closer to making the league.

I’m not sure what kind of deal Barry has with Minnesota. It’s not the 2-way deal Dean has which comes with guaranteed and greater $$$, but I assume it’s a real opportunity to get signed with their (or another) G-league team. Barry’s lack of shooting and size are going to be hard to overcome, but his confidence, defense and hustle may be enough for someone to make a spot for him.

Cleveland got a steal. I used to be a Cleveland fan many moons ago. Will be again this year.

He's looking for a runway, and fuel is low.

No KU guys taken either. Not sure WSU even had any contenders. I guess Kansas came up empty.
I'm a little surprised Lawson was skipped. Maybe all the busts KU has in the league is turning the teams off. I checked a Minnesota board and their fans were hoping to get shed of Wiggins and his bloated contract. Other than Embid who barely played in college most Jawhawks have been a disappointment in the NBA.
Lawson can't guard and would be a 10-15 min guy. Those guys gave have able to guard because they're typically not scorers.

Nick Collison hung around for 12-13 yrs playing 10-20 mpg because he could guard and was tough. Lawson isn't close to Collison in defensive ability or toughness.

I'm thinking Brown and Stokes will play overseas. Pullen was a bonafide scorer and pretty good defender and never made it long term in the NBA. Barry is more athletic and slightly taller, but I think Jacob was better as a scorer and definitely a better shooter. You never know if he finds the right situation. I believe Nigel Johnson played in the G-Leaugue last season.

I don't believe they make anywhere near $400-500k/season in the G-Leaugue. I know Vanvleet said he was offered $50,000 for a 2 way contract & turned it down to take a chance as a free agent try out and of course, he bet on himself and won. He signed a 2 year, $18 million contract this season.

It’s a very complicated way to make a salary, but, as I understand it, guaranteed 2-way guys like Dean will qualify for most of the potential earnings. Plus, the article says he will get a per diem and free housing so he can pocket most of it.

So basically, there's a lot of "ifs" in the earnings equation for a G-Leaugue prospect. I recall Jacob saying he could make more overseas & Vanvleet turning it down to target a team he believed he could make. Dean likely has a very good chance to ascend to to the big league. Cleveland is in rebuild mode.

After having 12 workouts for NBA teams in 20 days, he has to be in Cleveland to practice on Tuesday.

It will be interesting to see how Dean plays with his career on the line. Passivity won't cut it in the D-League. Deferring to other players, who are likely better than Brown and Stokes won't get him to the NBA. This is not a slam on Dean, just the harsh reality of where he's been at times and where he is right now. He needs to leave timidness behind and bury it. Whether we all want to admit it or not, it's been an issue for Dean, even into his senior year. I pray for the best for Dean, but it's now Dean alone who must find that balance between "me" and "team".
Good post.
