South Dakota State wins narrowly
South Dakota State won a narrow victory over the Lady Cats, but led comfortably throughout most of the game.
Poor shooting of 3-pointers hurt KSU again.
Gabby Gregory is a warrior. Scored 30+ on a gimpy ankle.

This team will live and die by the 3 all season. 8 for 37 from 3 will be a die from 3 day. If this team shoots around 30% from the arc they have a good shot at victory, but anything under 25% will result in a loss most nights. Just not much of an inside game without Yoki. Really need as many wins in the non con as possible because I see somewhere around 6-12 for conference play.

I had to shovel snow and couldn't watch or follow the game. Looking at the statistics, we did shoot poorly from 3 point range, only 8 of 37. However, the real key to the loss appears to be free throws. K-State was 18 of 19, but SDSU was 25 of 33 from the line. How did SDSU manage to shoot 14 more free throws?

That stat is largely inflated because we played the foul game in the final minutes to try and extend the game. They shot like 12 free throws in the final minute. We trailed almost the entire game. Gabby is keeping us in games. Others need to step up.purpleprairiecat wrote: ↑December 10th, 2022, 6:34 pmI had to shovel snow and couldn't watch or follow the game. When you shoot 37 treys you’re not going to get to the line near as much. SDS only shot 14 treys.
While there is no Yoki this year they do still have some size and some big guards. No reason to have to settle for so many 3’s. Ball movement, motion and back cuts should find opportunities in inside.

They (SDSU)dominated the boards and also had many more turnovers so it came down to shooting percentage. Probably a game we should have won, but I looked up the SDSU schedule and they beat #4 ranked Louisville by 10, Rutgers by 19, and also beat Mississippi State. They also had single digit losses to UCLA and a ranked Creighton team so they were definitely not a cupcake on the schedule.

Thanks for the analysis. I noticed that Lauterbach did not play. Was she injured or sick?

If she keeps improving, Greer can play the center spot much better than at present.. She and Maupin are both athletic.
I love watching Maupin play defense and jump, jump, jump. She will be great after she matures a bit more. I can't remember a Lady Cat who can jump like Maupin.

IMO the biggest factor in the loss was rebounding and post defense. We were out rebounded 45 to 30. We have no post defense. They made shot after shot uncontested at the rim. The same thing happened in the loss to Arkansas.

yep, the post is this team's only obvious shortfall.
Why is there something rather than nothing?
