What happens downriver now
I say hairpiece resigns, maybe to go to Dook-I have a gut feeling ratface may hang it up before long, and the beaks skate.

i believe the ncaa will hammer ku with a postseason ban, reduction in scholarships, and by putting bill self on a show-cause penalty of some sort. after which, ku will take the ncaa to federal court. whether that means a stay in the penalties until the court decides or not, i'm not sure. but the ncaa either makes a statement here or loses all credibility for managing collegiate sports going forward. thus, it's my view today that they'll take some serious action against the beaks.
Why is there something rather than nothing?

Don’t disagree but am wondering if KU will have the federal courts for redress if the NCAA employs the outside panel to determine KU’s fate. Supposedly the findings and punishments are binding and unappealable (at least within the NCAA) as agreed to by the member institutions. No doubt Ku will go to the mat. Hopefully there isn’t one.tmcats wrote: ↑May 10th, 2020, 10:14 ami believe the ncaa will hammer ku with a postseason ban, reduction in scholarships, and by putting bill self on a show-cause penalty of some sort. after which, ku will take the ncaa to federal court. whether that means a stay in the penalties until the court decides or not, i'm not sure. but the ncaa either makes a statement here or loses all credibility for managing collegiate sports going forward. thus, it's my view today that they'll take some serious action against the beaks.

which panel the ncaa uses to administer punishment likely won't matter to ku. they'll still go to court over the institution unfairly treating them if penalized, after all, they are the victim of this adidas tomfoolery. the fact ku signed a $196 million adidas contract after the fact has nothing to do with any of this cheating malarkey.

If this isn't enought it's hard to know what kind of smoking gun the NCAA might need to establish that Self and Adidas were collaborating. I agree that if KU and Self don't get serious (i.e. suspension/post-season ban) sanctions for this they might just as well let the market rule. Could get expensive for boosters of the prominent establishments if there's essentially a public auction instead of a secret closed bid system for the top talent.

Gassnola's behavior around the KU program can be construed as a booster. I don't see how KU gets around that. Gassnola was just too cozy with KU and Self. The facts can easily be interpreted that way.
Self had an obligation and the responsibility as the KU head coach to keep his relationship with Gassnola from appearing improper. Self did not do that. That is overlooked around the phog net. Before the night Self was inducted intio the HOF he was seen having dinner with Gassnola. Who does that? Gassnola had the reputation of a low life.
KU should gave tried to settle this and take probation for a year or two and a loss of a couple scholarships for two or three years. Maybe that will turn out to be the penalty. If so KU gets off really lucky.
Like I said in an earlier post. Everyone takes a beating every now and then. It's time that KU and Bill meet Mr. Ben Dover.

Pat Forde's article yesterday was pretty damning as it relates to KU trying to act like Gassnola was not a part of the program. People in the athletic department knew he was trouble, including AD at the time Zenger. They would see him around the offices, but even Zenger couldn't do anything because he was there at the behest of the almighty Bill Self. The compliance guy even compared him to a gangster, but of course Self operated unchecked by everyone.
This whole deal is obvious. Self has operated in the gutter since day 1 at KU and they are doing exactly what everyone knew they would do if they actually got called on the carpet for it, just deny deny deny.
