Joe Petrakis
Since theres not much going on, I thought I would put out this post about the youngest player on the team this year. He'll turn 19 on March 28.
Petrakis played as a freshman at Dodge City when he was 17,
Red shirted this year at his request in order to gain weight. I would guess he has gone from about 205 to 220 lbs from looking at him late in the season compared to last summer.
“They’ve been in communication with me a decent amount this year, starting right around Christmas. They’ve kept in touch, especially Coach (Chester) Frazier. They like my size. I’m pretty long, but I need to gain weight. I’m pretty young. A little bit of a downside is the weight, but they really like how I can stretch the floor. I’m pretty good with pick-and-pop, shooting 3’s and whatnot, really stretching out the defense.”

Played one year at Dodge City College in Dodge City, Kan., where he played his true freshman season in 2018-19… Helped the Conquistadors to a 7-23 overall record, including an eighth-place finish in the West Division of the Kansas Jayhawk Conference.
Saw action in all 30 games with 12 starts, averaging 14.7 minutes per game… Played a season-high 31 minutes against Neosho County (12/1/18) and Seward County (2/11/19).
Averaged 4.8 points on 36.7 percent shooting (51-of-139), including 33.3 percent (20-of-60) from 3-point range, to go with 3.1 rebounds and 0.5 assists per game… Connected on 71.9 percent (23-of-32) from the free throw line.
Scored in double figures in 4 games, including a season-high 14 points in a start at Barton (2/9/19) on 5-of-11 field goals, including 4-of-7 from 3-point range… Posted 13 points in a win over Western Oklahoma State (11/9/18), while he tallied 12 points in back-to-back games against Hesston (11/17/18) and Lee (11/20/18).
One of 6 players with 20 or more 3-point field goals… Connected on a season-high 4 treys against Barton (2/9/19).
Snagged 5 or more rebounds in 9 games, including a season-high 10 against Neosho County (12/1/18)

Its just information. You can do whatever you want.
The point is he was 17 years old at Dodge and underweight. He'll be 20 lbs heavier and a year and 7 months older before we ever see him play. 6ft 9 post player who might be able to stretch the floor. 33% from three at Dodge on 20 for 30.
Even though he is a walk on, the coaching staff actively recruited him. Absolutely no idea if he will ever see the floor at Kansas State. Just another player I plan to keep an eye on.

If he can hit the 3 and rebound he may get some minutes. It will come down to how he executes, if he can guard, and how good our other bigs are. We have a lot more big guys to choose from right now but that can and likely will change. Good to have a guy like Joe to provide depth and for practice purposes. I will look forward to seeing him on the floor, hopefully next fall.

A lot will come down to whether he can guard and we have no idea. But he is a fairly agile 6ft 9. I would guess he is not very quick so positioning will be important if he is going to see the floor.katlander wrote: ↑March 29th, 2020, 10:27 amIf he can hit the 3 and rebound he may get some minutes. If you watch the video of his play at Dodge, he actually has some post moves along with an outside shot. Of course it doesn't show the times he got stuffed or traveled or got stripped.
Shows him making some blocks but doesn't show guys going around him for scores.

or another scottie pippen. age/maturity make a big difference.
If you have to be persuaded, reminded, pressured, lied to, incentivized, coerced, bullied, socially shamed, guilt-tripped, threatened, punished and criminalized...you can be absolutely certain that what is being promoted is not in your best interest

I'm just hoping for Darren Kent. But a little better at getting the treys to drop.
