He'll probably thrive starting next to true point guard, or coming off the bench at another school as a shooting guard. His handles were never strong enough to be a PG. He's an occasional NBA G League to long term International player.

Cartier's value to the team was substantial in his first two seasons. He helped us win games and accomplish some special things. When the leadership role shifted to him this season, he had his worst season IMO. I don't care that some of his stats were better, some were actually much worse, like turnovers and field goal percentage. He became a different player ... a more careless player. If he had stayed, we would have seen more of the same. His 13points per game will be replaceable. His ball handling will be replaceable. His attitude will not be missed. I don't get all of the "oh we'll miss him next season" talk. No we won't. I appreciate his contributions to KSU basketball, especially during his freshman and sophomore seasons, and I was one of his biggest fans. I thought he should have started over Stokes as a sophomore, and said so. But he didn't blend well with this team. The departed seniors made Cartier a better player, because they took pressure off of him, and allowed him to play at HIS level. I wish him the best, but this team will not miss him next season.
I agree, Dave. I don't believe next year's team will have a hard time replacing his shooting percentage and assist to turnover ratio. As a 5th year veteran, you would hope he would be a calming presence for the newcomers whenever things are going bad on the court. Perhaps, it's time for Mike and David to step up and shine next year in that role.

Yes, Mike and David may end up being better leaders than Cartier and X were, even though they aren't as talented as those two were. You don't have to be the best player on the team to be a leader. We'll have plenty of talent below those two guys. Let's see if they can lead them to better things.

My guess. Weber is glad Cartier is moving on, but obviously won't say that publicly. I think next year's team will energize him. Don't be surprised if they're better than expected.
Glad or not, don’t you believe it appears coach was expecting it? We’ve still been recruiting with no open scholarships. You have to believe someone is leaving and you’ll need to fill that spot, otherwise if you’re not expecting him to leave what do you tell Williams or Ellis or whoever when they call and say “I want to be a wildcat”?
I'm sure you are right about that. Weber probably knew much earlier, and I wouldn't be surprised if he encouraged him to go professional. There was not much to be gained for the team or Cartier to hang around next season and try again to be a leader - a role he's not suited for. Cartier certainly wasn't going to defer to freshmen like Pack and Miguel, who I think will be stars in the future. Now those guys are freed up to play without Cartier. They may fall on their faces at times, but by the end of the season, we're going to be a pretty salty team.

Agree. The main thing we lose is his ability to create. But, that hardly makes up for his inability to play within the team and his bad D. Not to mention the attitude.

If Cartier's replacement can shoot at a higher percentage, and the other newcomers, it'll be a smoother transition.

Watch this video and read Cartier's lips and give me your take what may have been going on between these 2. I have an idea but would like to hear what you think first. It helps to watch it on full screen.

Yep, that was it for me and really the nail in the coffin of the season.

I’m sure that video makes a lot of coaches want to bring him in.

gor, that was an excellent post. i so admired how this team stuck together and fought to the end winning those last two. that said so much for weber and the character of his players as well. and ya, learnin', the force did come to play on these guys.

as written, carti earned his degree, was academic all b12, had been here 4 years and is likely going overseas. if not, he may end up at back home at st. johns or maybe at clemson or with frank in his second home, south carolina, although i can't imagine that relationship being effective for either.

carti was fun to watch and cheer for, yes mercurial, at times frustrating, but he didn't quit.
Yes, it was heartening to see how these guys kept playing their butts off right to the very end. I really believe they thought they could win the Big XII tournament and get to the dance. I believe, like the TCU game, it would have been hard for Baylor to beat them three times especially since Baylor was heading downward over the last 4 games.

I'm glad these guys finished on a winning note. It will hopefully give them more confidence/hope going into next season. I'm looking forward to seeing next year's team. Lots of new folks. We will be young, but have lots of talent and guys who are going to play hard.
