The game BEFORE KU - the right way to end a blowout.
West Virginia scores on a layup with about 24 seconds left on the clock. KSU now has a 16 point lead. West Virginia had made a second half push, but we rallied to extend our margin, and victory was assured.
We end bound the ball, and IMMEDIATELY WVU players relax, back off of our players and drift back on defense. David Sloan has the ball and dribbles to the right side far corner. His man is about 10 feet from him standing straight up with his hands on his hips. Sloan dribbles out the final 16 seconds of the game, and while that is happening, the fans come to their feet and cheer and players from both teams are showing sportsmanship around the foul lane with handshakes and even hugs. The coaches shake hands and do a semi embrace.
Gave over. No hard feelings. No rancor. No fight. No national embarrassment.
With a deficit of 16 points, WVU did the right thing and let the game end. Kansas State did the right thing and dribbled out the clock, not intending to score or embarrass the other team.
PLAY TIL THE END, some of you bellow!
Nope. This is the way gentlemen end a contest. With grace and good will.

Get over it! You’ve convinced yourself. That’s all that matters.

Struck a nerve? No rebuttal to the truth? Where are the bellicose arguments now that a perfectly reasonable and sportsmanlike ending to a game is revealed. One that would have prevented the melee in Lawrence.
No, you won't accept this truth. It's easier to get mad, truculent and belligerent. That takes no self control and releases all of the pent up fury from getting hammered by a hated rival. Sort of like what the players did.
I don't have to "convince" myself of anything. It's as plain as day what the course of action should have been. But that scenario doesn't fit with this forum's corp of badass "fans".
This team took a serious blow to it's reputation and are now joined at the hip with KU. No, we don't cheat like they do, but by God we know how to fight! Look out Big 12.

p'dave just can't give it up that people see what happened in lawrence differently. that people of good intentions can disagree. that the steal and block were within the framework of 'written' rules and that desousa's lording-over d'gordon caused the fight. that 'unwritten' rules make a poor argument. the old saw applies: a man convinced against his will always remains a doubter still.

Why is there something rather than nothing?

Steal the ball - right
Block the shot - right
Taunting - wrong
Pretty simple.
P'dave is like some of the folks I work with that when asked for an analysis of something, they give you a spreadsheet with 12 tabs of calculations. Most of it is "look at how smart I am". Many just roll their eyes and don't read any of it. Why? Because it's not needed.
Opinions have been given. All but one on this board will move on.

Just like the big bad man who likes to fight. You're moving on? Hardly. Why did you bother to post again?bigpurpleman wrote: ↑January 28th, 2020, 10:24 amSteal the ball - right

Well, here we go again with the great magistrate of our meager little forum. I guess certain people have to have something to lord over.tmcats wrote: ↑January 27th, 2020, 11:17 amp'dave just can't give it up that people see what happened in lawrence differently. that people of good intentions can disagree. that the steal and block were within the framework of 'written' rules and that desousa's lording-over d'gordon caused the fight. that 'unwritten' rules make a poor argument. the old saw applies: a man convinced against his will always remains a doubter still.
I've lost track of all of the posters who have told you to shut up. Take their advice.
