So is he locked into starting the season in the G league or still a chance he’s part of the Cavs roster when the season opens?

Saw the dunk from tonight’s game on Dean’s Instagram page. Nasty. Looks like he’s finally 100%.

Yea I tried to link that Piedmont but it said it was unavailable...??? Maybe you can try.
It’s not a lock either way hoovy. Maximum number of days in NBA is 45 though. But they could tear up his 2 way contract and sign him to the Cavs if they want I believe.

I’m certainly no NBA guru, but as I understand it, the Cavs have a bunch of veteran power forwards under contract. It’s very doubtful that Dean would be moved off his 2-way contract unless there are some injuries. Later in the year they may look to trade a couple of those older guys. Expiring contracts make some of them attractive to other teams and older, more expensive, players don’t fit a team in rebuild mode. But, even then, if that’s in their plans they would probably just keep Dean in the g-league early and use his 45 nba days later in the season without having to pay him as much. He might earn a contract this year, but I think his better bet is to play well, impress the coaches, and sign with them next year when they will almost certainly be cutting contracts at his position and looking for cheaper, younger, players.
