As crazy as it sounds, yes that is correct. Not many know the Walter Payton story, but it's true. The dang Jacksonville train station screwed us.bhoovy wrote: ↑April 13th, 2019, 8:19 pmSo LT and Walter Payton were both ours to be had?epicsnyder wrote: ↑April 13th, 2019, 9:00 am
100% true. Read it in an article in TCU's alumni magazine just a few years back. Might have had something to do with the prior post about nap time. But that's what I read in print anyway.

DaJaun Gordon - Rivals #105 - Beat out offers from Ole Miss, Nebraska, Xavier, SMU, Colorado State, DePaul, New Mexico and Tulsa
Montavious Murphy - Rivals #139 - Beat out offers from Texas A&M, Houston, SMU, VCU, FGC
David Sloan - Beat out offers form Cincinnati and Georgetown.
Out of HS, Sloan also had offers Louisville, Iowa State, Memphis, Missouri, Eastern Kentucky, Western Kentucky, Wright State. So he wasn't a nobody that went to a JUCO. However, his rating dropped upon attending JUCO. Although JUCO ratings are suspect, and they may change now that he is showing up on recruiting sites. He would have been consider a pretty good get out of HS in 2017 comparing to what K-State has had up until this year.
For reference recruits in the last few years 247sports rating: If possible I included their HS and JUCO rankings
94.33 - Malek Harris (2014)
93.55 - DaJuan Gordon (2019)
91.00 - Stephen Hurt (2014 JUCO rating)
90.33 - Xavier Sneed (2016)
90.08 - Montavious Murphy (2019)
90.01 - Jevon Thomas (2013)
89.82 - Makol Mawien (2015 HS rating)
88.68 - Dean Wade (2015)
88.62 - Shaun Neal Williams (2018)

NR - Stephen Hurt (2011 HS rating)
NR - Austin Trice (2016 HS rating)
NR - Tre Harris (2014)
NR - Nigel Johnson (2013)
NR - Makol Mawien (2017 JUCO rating)
You can also see how wide a range recruiting rankings are. There are players rated higher, that never did anything, and those rated lower, that were good finds.
