Joe Lunardi's Bracketology

Post by KSUbetcha » January 10th, 2019, 3:59 pm

The Bracketology cuurently has the Cats as one the last 4 teams In as an 11 Seed. Along with Texas, Syracuse, and Clemson. Winner of that matchup plays Nebraska. I'd want that game anyday given the Cornholers record in the NCAA Tournament.

Yeah its still early but there is still time for the Cats to at least stay above water until Dean can get back. There is still plenty to play for.

Go Cats!!

Well, we were playing less than inspired in the early season. Maybe this slap in the face will give them a little motivation.

However, after last season’s run, I suspect we will get the benefit of the doubt if we are on the bubble come selection Sunday..

I actually think the preseason hype along with the Dean injury will give the Cats a better shot than the raw resume may show at the end of the year. For example, let’s say KState is 2-5 without Dean in conference and 7-4 with him (and he averages 17 and 7 or so). The points will be made about the slow start relating directly to injuries because everyone knew about the Cats and Deans preseason buzz. I’ve heard the committee mention that they do take into account special injury situations like that.

:agree:
I agree with this, the Cats need to do their part by going at least 9-9 in the Big 12, it will give the selection committee some ammo to support including the Cats.

We go 9-9 in conference and pick up 1 more win either against A&M or in the B12 tournament and we are in. 20 wins gets us in.

Unless they have changed the process, the school turns in a file for the Committee members to review along with all the other relevant information. The file contains information that the school wants the Committee to be aware of. If a key player has missed a significant part of the season AND has returned and is playing well, then the Committee members are allowed to take that into account. There have been several cases of teams benefitting from that process in the past. You still have to be close, but it can give you a boost compared to other similar teams.

Don't want to jinx anything but . . . A plausible take on the last 10 days is that despite mind-boggling dismal play for long stretches KSU was within striking distance down the stretch in Lubbock against a pretty strong team, and got maybe Texas' best game of the season in that loss after pulling even. No question they've looked just terrible for long stretches, but I think it's still plausible that they wind up top 3 or 4 in the conference. There aren't going to be very many games decided by more than 2 or 3 possessions, and senior leadership really helps in games like that. Obviously they have to start playing more than 20 minutes per game, tho. It would be a good next step if they don't catch Iowa State on one of its lights-out shooting days and can steal one tomorrow.
Sorry to be chipper; I'll probably regret it in the next 10 days.

Hey don't apologize for having a positive outlook. Right or wrong, this board (and a vast majority of boards) rarely suffer from an excess of positivity.

Update from 11 JAN 2019... CATS still last 4 in, but getting Dean back will help. If we keep playing better and beat some more quality teams we'll move up. Just hope we stay away from the dreaded 8/9 seed.

Worked out last year, just need a 16 seed to win again
