Guys like Gip always help a team. Yeah he wasn’t tall but he had wIde shoulders and a nice little jump hook. He was also a warrior and strong as an ox.
IMO: He played good defense but not as well as Mak does.

Agree. He wouldn’t be able to hedge the screens like Mak does. No chance. IMO, that’s the main reason Mak plays. Although I personally wouldn’t hedge as hard as they do 20+ ft from the basket. But, like I’ve often said, coach Weber has 400+ more wins than I do and it’s hard to argue with his success.

My contention is that we have never had a great big man. I can name you 15 great big men that KU has had over the last 50 years, who have been All American or all Big 8 or Big 12. Many of those went on to play pro ball.

Dean Wade may be the best big man in our history and he is a 4 not a 5.

So I guess Weber has done as well as any coach with big men.

They’re certainly not a dime-a-dozen.

You are so right on Beasley, but other than him, who? Plus he really was more of a 4 and not a 5 I believe.

I don't think anybody is expecting All American type bigmen at KSU... or at least not with any regularity. I'm just hoping for a big that can be a 2nd team(or even HM) Conf selection by their Senior year. Even a Big who is in the top 4 bigs of the conference for that year would be great. I just have a hard time thinking any of our bigmen on the team will fall into that category, and it's like that every year. Dean is the obvious exception.

I'm not trying to compare Frank vs Bruce... but Frank had guys like Beasley, JO, Gipson, Samuels, Kelly... even your stretch 4s like Nino/Southwell(if you call them bigs). Outside of Beasley, none of those guys were All Americans, but they weren't glaring weaknesses on our roster either. That's all I am hopeful for.

bruce has had guys like d.j., dean wade and mac. better than frank recruited. that's just simple fact. and iwundu and x are better than any wing frank bought here. frank's good years were off hugg's recruits not his own.
Why is there something rather than nothing?

Yes, DJ, forgot about him in the past post. So 2 Bigs that Bruce recruited at KSU who've turned out well.

Simple fact that Bruce recruited better than Frank? Based on what?

Rodney wasn't a big, and besides, he was a Frank recruit, playing just 1 year under Bruce, similar to players like Angel, Southwell, JO and Nino. Frank helped recruit many of Huggins players, but after that, Frank also recruited plenty of talent as a HC

rodney's the only guy who would be comparable to wes, foster, brown, sneed. and rodney came out of the baltimore, pay-for-pay, pipeline. i'd like to think he wasn't on the roles, but, frankly, i believe nothing today about that time. angel and jake were good too, but angel left for miami over, i'm guessing, money from crooked larranaga. both those guys were guards, not bigs.
