MHK Airport. Is it an asset for KSU sports
It seems to me recruiting and portaling activities have increased since it reopened.
I assume they fly in top recruits directly to Manhattan for official visit.
Would have Dybantsa came for a visit if he had been told he had to fly into KCI and drive a couple of hours out to Manhattan. I would thinks thoughts of Hicksville might enter his mind.
I suppose there are ways I am not thinking of as to how our sports programs our help by having a nice regional airport.
Hopefully MHK benefits from K State related passengers

Back in the Big 8 days, I believe KU and Mizzou (probably oSu and ISU, too) were in the same boat we were. Recruits flew to KC and then a shuttle from their schools took them to Manhattan, Lawrence, and Columbia. I don't know if that is still the case for KU and Mizzou, but yeah, it is great that we can fly recruits directly into Manhattan.SCKSCat wrote: ↑September 7th, 2024, 1:10 amIt seems to me recruiting and portaling activities have increased since it reopened.

i can tell you that currie was a big help in attracting american airlines, along with ft. riley's general vince brooks. both were in the negotiations and both ecstatic when it came to pass.

American Airlines is the suckiness airline in the biz. Wish MHK was served by any airline but AA.
Flying AA and expecting a routine round-trip is like playing Russian Roulette with one empty chamber.

Especially through ORD. I can't count how many times I've been stuck overnight in Chicago (actually Des Plaines the last time two months ago) due to flight delays, missing crews, etc. I also greatly appreciate the $12 "meal" voucher they provide which can typically get me a bottle of water and a granola bar at an airport.ToledoCat#3 wrote: ↑September 7th, 2024, 9:58 pmAmerican Airlines is the suckiness airline in the biz. Just as bad or worse in Dallas-Ft. Worth. Missing crews. Missing maintenance. Run-around by everyone in an AA uniform. AA = Amateur Airlines
Two weeks ago, my wife sat on an AA plane, on the tarmac, for four hours in Memphis. The plane was waiting for a maintenance crew to get flown in from somewhere.

Manhattan needs regional jet service by United to its Denver hub or by Delta to its Salt Lake City hub. Either would open up many connections to western locations that are otherwise costly for travel using the regional jet service by American to Dallas-Ft. Worth or Chicago O'Hare.

mhk doesn't have enough traffic to warrant a second carrier.purpleprairiecat wrote: ↑September 8th, 2024, 4:12 pmManhattan needs regional jet service by United to its Denver hub or by Delta to its Salt Lake City hub. Does MHK have enough traffic to entice a better carrier to replace Amateur Airlines? I would hope so.

I think this guy has the airlines ranked about right:
https://thepointsguy.com/news/best-us-airlines-2024/
Part of my rankings are based on my experiences flying out of Spokane, WA, where I now live. I flew out of MHK for many years, going back to Capital Airlines days. I once flew in the co-pilot's seat on the six-passenger Capital Airlines flight from MCI to MHK. The pilot got lost on a visual approach, and I pointed out the dam on Tuttle Creek Lake to him. For those flights, the pilot and co-pilot loaded the bags. Alaska Airlines is the best, but their webpage and phone app are downright weird. Honestly, I never had that many issues with American. My problem was the cost when flying to a western location. Based on my experiences, I rank Southwest the lowest and will not fly that airline now. I have helped load cattle and pigs many times. The Southwest experience of flying is just like that. The secret to flying American out of Manhattan is to go to DFW whenever possible and avoid ORD. In addition, always take the earliest flight out of Manhattan and never return to Manhattan on the last flight of the day. By the way, flying access out of Manhattan is absolutely critical to the success of K-State sports and to the university.
