Re: Portal 2024
This kid just hit the portal...Would be nice to have a big guard (6'7) with multiple years left who can shoot the 3. 46.5% from 3-point range and averaged 16 pts and 6 rebounds....One can dream, right? I would assume some of the blue bloods would be on him, Duke, NC, KU, etc...but maybe he flies under their radar?

We have to remember a number of kids will declare for the NBA draft and enter the portal. These will be Division I players who did well on that level. Many will pull out of the draft and seek a better opportunity. These players have a track record. Mid major players are a gamble. Wait or grab early? It takes confidence to wait.

I saw on twitter but haven't seen him mentioned here that Layton Blocker from Arkansas entered the portal. On his initial recruitment out of Sunrise Academy it was thought he might go to KSU, it came down to the Hogs and us for his services. Not sure if he is an option this time or not, haven't really seen much more smoke about him.

I was just watching Joe Tillery on YouTube. He mentioned that we are closing in on a 6'5 guard named CJ Jones who played for UIC last season. He apparently is very athletic, a good ball handler, and averaged 11.4 ppg as a sophomore. It's obviously not a done deal, but he sounds like someone who could be a good replacement for Cam Carter.
Joe also mentioned that he and Buddy Rich went to the same high school, but CJ graduated the year before Buddy.

He's got some pretty good stats overall. 42% FG & over 37% from 3pt. Land. Would be a pretty good addition IMO.stlcatfan wrote: ↑March 26th, 2024, 9:37 amI was just watching Joe Tillery on YouTube. Yeah, his FT percentage stood out to me, too. It looks like he shot better last season at around 68%. Pretty low for a guard, IMO.
It looks like he originally signed with Mizzou out of high school, but decommitted from them.
