Why fans have made a deep connection to Coach Tang.
Other coaches win.
But special ones have a special bond with their fans. Often because what they do off the court also. Who are such coaches? Bill Self and Scott Drew come to mind.
I think Coach Tang is in the same rarefied status.

I am not posting this to get a dig in about someone else or to diminish the importance of winning, but to tip my cap to Coach Tang for being a good man doing good things for others without it being about himself.
In about 5 posts I predict that this will go off the rails and soon be locked up. Which is frustrating. So read the KWCH article

Have been attending the radio show each Thursday and don’t have the words to express how impressed we’ve been with him. One incredible human being. And the relationships he has with his players and staff is enviable. Can’t help but believe great things are coming for our basketball program!

Kudos to Coach Tang. There was a reason he waited as long as he did to become a head coach. The school had to be a good fit for what he believed in. Faith and Family first. Schools like Colorado or Texas would have taken a pass on him after the interview i would guess. We are fortunate to have such a good representative leading our program.

I'm not a big fan of going up into the stands to celebrate. But that's my only quibble. A gifted guy who waited SO long for his
opportunity, I think fans should be thankful for what they got and scale back on the quibbling. Anybody think he's not going to be
a dynamite recruiter? Line forms at the left.

Why didn't they ask the daughter some questions. He didn't go to see the mother. I would have loved to hear what she had to say.
If I had been the parent I would just say "What a great guy" then turn to my daughter and ask her how she felt about it.

Quite a guy! Even little trips across Des Moines metro bother me. Not sure how much of a journey he had to make, but on game day with other things going on and you know he is busy. That's awesome that he did that and you saw how much it meant to them.
Thank you for posting that.

A visit to Children's Mercy will change you.
It is an amazing Kansas City Institution.
The people of Kansas City will remember this visit.
