Paying Pack Was Worth It - Miami Wins ACC

$200,000 was worth it. You can argue Pack wasn't that important or it was a bad precedent. Bottom line they won a conference championship.

I thought I heard $800k for 2 years, and a car of whatever. But then thought I heard they couldn't be a contract like that - a 2 yr period. I don't under the legalized booster (NIL) system at all.
ACC was not good this year - had been ranked 7th in conferences behind MWC not too long ago, so was an easier than normal year to win it. But good for him in a couple way$.

we'll see soon enough how good or not these conference are in the dance. i'm sure b12 teams will be glad to play someone outside the conference.

All the good press for the Big XII will be gone if we don't do well in the Tournament. I would think anything less than 3 Big XII teams in the Sweet 16 would be looked at as a poor performance.

Can money buy love?
I can only imagine what Pack had to go through to befriend teammates and feel accepted.
And, did this cash grab and dash to Miami enhance his chances to play in the NBA? Who knows. He didn't exactly set the world on fire following an All Big 12 season. Pack wanted to play point guard but went to a team that already had one ... a guy who was on the top pre season, 50-player, Wooden Award list. Will Pack even be on that list NEXT year?
We could have used his marksmanship this season, but he would have had to acquiesce and play the 2-guard, without complaining. That was probably a big ask.
Did we miss having Pack this season? In retrospect, probably not. But I wish him all the best.

Very true. Too much emphasis is placed upon the tournament. Anything can happen in one game. Indiana has the best big in the nation and maybe the 2nd best. They are a poor three point shooting team. Yet, they could blow hot from three in one game and take out a big XII team. The opposite is true. A couple of big XII teams could have disastrous 3 point shooting and now 4 teams have been eliminated.WildcatEngineer wrote: ↑March 5th, 2023, 10:49 amAll the good press for the Big XII will be gone if we don't do well in the Tournament. Good points, Dave. At about mid way through the conference season, I would say Nijel was thinking twice about his decision. He was riding the bench quite a bit. But, he bought himself some love the old fashioned way by saving Miami in a couple of games that would have taken them out of the conference championship race. It’s hard to predict what kind of season he will have next year without Wong taking attention away from Nijel. Of course, the guy who took Angel and Nijel (names sound very similar don’t they) away with cash, will buy some more stars over the summer and Nijel may still play second fiddle.pulitzerdavid wrote: ↑March 5th, 2023, 11:08 amCan money buy love?

Nijel has parents who are financial advisors.
They are helping him to keep his money.
He probably will make some good money playing somewhere professionally.
This is a job he was hired to do.
I think them winning is secondary to him doing what is best for him.
He is a hired gun.
