How many Scholarship for Next Year?

Post by RLundin » August 22nd, 2022, 3:43 pm

Surprised we signed the 13th guy to scholarship. Tang has two returners and 11 transfer or new signees. How many of these guys only have one year left to play and thus how many scholarships do we have to offer guys next year? Assuming everyone that can return actually returns. This will be the minimum number of new scholarships for next year. You always have a transfer-out or two but those are unknown and lets not count them right now.

Ryan Gilbert has a breakdown year by year in this Tweet. 3 per year assuming no one transfers out.

First, this is a great thread on an issue that I had not thought to much about. OutofState thanks for the chart. I think that the classes seem very balanced out. it seems our coaches put a lot of effort into to this.
The last few years the balance of players in each class has been unbalanced.
This mix could get unbalanced quickly if the transfer bug bites a few players in hangdanglers and they think they are too good to play for K State or go after NIL

I think with the portal, finding balance is less important than in the past.

If you lose a guy, you can target somebody to fill the hole with an appropriate roll and class. You could also go for more mature classes, and try to have 8-10 upper classmen, with some good young developmental in the younger classes, and fill in with a sophomores or juniors when every year unless you have your desired number of upperclassmen.

But on paper, it looks like they planned and executed it well in this regard.

It good that we have 5 scholarships for next year. Two of which have been taken already.

Thanks for the link outofstate. That looks like they have a it pretty well balanced.

One or two more true frosh for next year, depending on how big of an impact they believe they can be and one or two from the portal.

Of course you never know who may transfer out.
